Well... as always, it depends. The advantages you list above are true for shorter sidewall tires but they are not as great as many people make them out to be. And there are advantages for taller sidewall tires.

Tire OD affects gearing and, depending on what you're doing (road racing in this context) sometimes shorter gearing will put the car in a bad spot (engine rpm) for acceleration out of an important corner. Taller sidewalls are also more forgiving under hard braking and give a broader slip angle curve in the corners making it easier to drive at the limit. A higher horsepower RWD car will put power down better with taller rear tire sidewalls.

 

cornering was my main concern with the shorter sidewall. i was always under the impression that a taller tire (more sidewall ) would maybe flex/give more when cornering. i was thinking a stiff sidewall and short sidewall would be more prone to slide out from under you. but i see alot of the newer cars today like the (R8) use a smaller sidewall 235/30/19 and 305/30/19. so i am probably wrong in this thinking either way, i am sure the R888 are a much better improvement over the michelin PS2

...my adjuster just came out and they are cutting me a fairly large sum of money.

My question is:
What wheel/tire combonation can I buy and STILL be in BS class for autox. This is my first year and I don't want to heavily mod my vehicle and would like to learn how to use my vehicle in it's stock form...or damn close to it. Stock wheel combo + labor = $8800...

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Seriously I've searched, hard, and only found info for the pre-'06 wheels, and even then I think only the "Track" rims, not the '06+ stockers.

 

In a way, you've hit the jackpot. You ought to be able to buy a set of 06 OEM wheels with tires for way under $2K, even less if the tires are worn some. Then you could spend the rest of the money on some "show" wheels and tires, i.e. 19" Volks.

 

I've been searching for OEM Track wheels...but I haven't found any. I'm still searching.

I take it the 06 OEM wheels clear Brembos? Forgive my ignorance, please. Also, will they weigh different and if so, would it be negligible performance-wise?

I'm confused or maybe didn't read this whole thing properly. You have an '03 Z, apparently a Track model since it has the Brembos. Not sure why you're looking at 06 wheels.

Do what I did. I use the OEM track wheels for autocrossing with some grippy tires like the Bridgestone RE-11s (formerly RE-01s), Falken RT-615, etc. You should be able to find a set of 03-05 OEM track wheels for around $500-$600. Tires will run you about $1000 to $1200.

The rest of that money could be spent on some really good wheels and tires for the street.

 

Because he couldn't find a set of track wheels, and the 06 wheels are the same size and offset. Weight differences are about 5-6lbs heavier per wheel for the 06's.

 

After a quick search, the only wheels I found that are BS legal other then the Enkei RPF1's are these new OZ Racing wheels. OZ Alleggerita HLT They come in a crap load of colors! The Enkei's are about a half a pound lighter then the OZ's.

 

I'm trying to do the exact thing you're saying but with no results. I would like to find some OEM track wheels, hell...i'll take some that are painted, but the issue is finding them.

As of right now, I'm looking at some RPF1's and Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs.
