Odd tire wear, what to do?
Nitto NT05's , 255/40-17's mounted up front with -1.8 camber, this is the second day on the track with them. I was out at Streets of Willow, running consistant 130's and here is how my tires looked at the end of the day. What to do, the tires were 179 degree's inner and 8 degrees cooler outside , the middle was 175ish. Tire pressure 35 hot
Am i just asking to much out of these tires? and need to get 275's up front ? More camber ? Tire pressure ? Doubledown mike also runs these and tried lower pressures with no luck (grip)
Opinions, facts or any knowledge is greatly welcomed.
Len

outsides and insides are just fine but the middle rib is toast and worn at a wierd angle. Kinda like its over inflated but i would think by playing with tire pressures its not.

If your talking about the orange peel texture on the tire surface, that's just soft rubber picked up from the track. Some highway miles will clear that up. It does look like your inner is wearing more than outer and temp difference supports it. That would lead me to camber or just swap the wheel to even out the wear. How does the other opposite tire look? Any circular track will have asymetrical wear because it ultimately favors left (CCW) or right (CW) turns.

Actually streets isn't as bad as SMMR that i normally run as far as braking is concerned. I wouldn't think its tread squearm because of the size of the tread blocks.
There is the bowl turn that allows for some high G turning. I do know the Lt tires get worn a bit more at streets

Tire pressures seem that they may be pretty close, since the temperature drop was even across the tire.
I'd go with the problem being that the tires were full-depth.

Toe settings are OEM, so if i remember -0.05 rear and don't remember front. The car is dropped 20mm front and rear.

OK.
I am no tie expert, but my theory is
1) Your camber is a little agressive and this track may have longer high speed sections.
2) you ae also experencing some "active" toe out. Most likely during a prelonged high compression area of the track. this combined with the agressive camber is plowing slightly at the inner/center area of the front tires. You can check this by putting the car up in the air then raise the front tires a 1/4 at a time and measuring toe-in.

And, it looks like since you were running full depth, the side wall was compressing, exposing the inner patch to the tarmac - which is why the wear looks so funny.
Try a different tire. I know you were prolly only running these because of the Red Line TT Event at SMMP.
