Default Go Pro HD Test Footage

I thought this might be of some interest to the autocross/roadcouse group. I can't wait to try it in the summer. I should have some Snow Cross (Auto Cross on snow obviously) footage soon too.

Go Pro HD Camera on Vimeo

Did some dicking around today just to figure it out. The stability is amazing, and I used the sealed case which has a lower sound quality obviously.

The footage is nothing special but gave me an idea on length vs. size.

Side Note: At 7:37 the dude in front seems to drift his car into the curb; go Ottawa drivers.

720p @ 30fps

2 different videos, one from rear of vehicle one from front.

First video 4:16/256MB
Second video 4:58/297MB

Roughly 550MB (raw) for 10mins of 720p, on a 16GB SDHC that should net me around 4.8 hours of video.

Decent.

When I merged the 2 videos it totaled 289MB obviously some quality loss there but Im a total newb and just googled "MP4 Editor" to make the video. If anyone can suggest a better beginner type program that would be swell. I've always just used Move Maker in the past.

I used Vimeo because it doesn't compress the video as much as youtube, thus better quality or as much as I could salvage.

Quality looks good. I liked your wave in the beginning.

Where did you buy it, did you shop around, and how much? I've been looking around, as I'm currently using a Panasonic DVD Video Camera.

Can't see or hear it because I am at work. But what are your impressions with the sound with the case off

There are two settings for sound....High and Low.

My experience with and without the case is that it is hit or miss. You just do not know how well your sound quality will be.

IMO this camera needs A LOT OF LIGHT. There are no settings (on mine) for lower light compensation.

I haven't used it outside the case honestly. It comes with 2 back doors, one that is open and one that is closed.

They recommend using the closed case for anything over 100MPH.

Check it out outside work, the sound STILL isnt that great and will no doubt pickup alot of windnoise. Still no place for an external Mic either. But hey the video quality is amazing IMO.

Apparently they really improved the sound on HD.

I believe they got rid of it on the HD model, I searched.

Found this cool little video edit and data overlay tool. Includes some cool multiple video source options. Dirt cheap at $25 but they have a free version (max 3 min) so you make sure it works and play with the interface. Works pretty slick...

We have 10 of the HD cameras on the way. They are really neat, and now come with a USB charging capability. No more expensive lithium AAA batteries! $299 MSRP

Yeah the large suction cup, no straps. I was kinda scared but it seems very solid.

Plus the casings are near bombproof apparently. Doubt the camera itself would actually be damaged if it fell off. Unless someone else ran over it...

see - you guys did make me buy this - works pretty well!

don't have a track day for a bit but here's a couple minutes from flying today

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYMA0sugRbo

gopro HD wide at 1080p / 30 fps - funny how it messes with the prop rpms

just stuck it to the inside of the front canopy and forgot about it

just simple flying/ landing over central florida - no acrobatics or strafing runs or anything too exciting

I have owned the wide-angle GoPro since June 2009. It is the same model that they are selling today.

I noticed that it did not handle different lighting conditions well. If I went from bright sunlight to shade, for example, it took the camera a while to adjust.

Recently GoPro put up a "bios" fix for this problem on their website. You must download the fix onto a memory card, and then press two buttons on the camera to load it.

Great video. I have the older, low-res Go-Pro and I just may have to buy the new one.

Couple questions:
1) What aircraft were you flying?
2) Hard to tell in the video, but it looked like you were carrying a fair amount of power on final making a low approach. If true, is that how you were taught?
3) How is the audio in the new version? In mine, the audio is pretty bad either in, or out, of the protective case.

I am JUST starting out - my cfi took over at 300' (about where we crossed the road) and probably i was low before then because he gave upped throttle

i plan to move the camera back a window next week to get some inside action -will lose most of the ground then though (need 2nd camera!!)

cessna 172 / garmin 1000 so all fancy electonic instruments for when they black the windows over... (much much later)

i was having battery life issues but charged / discharged fully a couple of times and it will now run 2+ hours - love the video quality but as you say audio not so good ( not so important with engine noise ) go pro forum advises a seperate digital recorder and edit it together in post

if you get the HD one then you can mount the other one facing rearwards or? to splice different views together

my big dilemma is flying or track days - a little difficult to swing both $$ wise..

[maybe i'll pm jetpilot about a job! or fly dc3s up from columbia - lots of drug running jobs there] possible he'll wait til i get into double digit hours...

Just curious. Back in the day, my CFI got cranky if I carried power on final. He always wanted a no power final shortly after turning from base. The idea was that if the engine hiccuped then, it was still no sweat making the landing.

I put most of my hours in 172s. Of course, back then we didn't have all the really nice avionics. Horizon and ball were still being stressed in training. VOR was the modern navigation instrument but we still had to learn to use directional beacons in a pinch. Last time I flew was as a passenger in a 206. I was amazed at the avionics.

Yeah sounds good, except that I don't have any decent video editing software and probably wouldn't know how to use it if I had.

That would be fun.

Yup. That is why I quit flying. Mortgage, kids, new practice.... it got to be too much. Still, around here you can rent a 172 for ~$80-$90 wet. Not too bad....
