Default track day power steering overheating?

I'm not running a p.s. cooler and I'm not even sure this is my problem to be honest. But, has anyone else experienced this? If so, what were your symptoms?

unfortunately this isn't an uncommon problem:

Actually, you ARE running one. Most people replace the OEM cooler with a larger version.

Here's a couple of DIYs on replacing it.

You can also pick up a NISMO PS cooler for around $150, it's a direct plug-in replacement. It's about twice the size of the OEM cooler.

after reading the threads i don't think this is my problem. I've got a whine noise/drone coming from the ar ONLY when giving it gas. Sounds like a supercharger. Hard to pinpoint where the noise is coming from b/c of the drone.

After leaving the track and slowly drivin home it seemed toget better....or maybe I was getting used to the noise? I dunno.

whining noise, especially if it's RPM dependent, can definitely indicate a problem with the PS pump.

yeah, I bet you roasted the fluid in the pump. My guess it's better but not completely gone, and then a fluid change will make it quiet again. But it's overheating on the track.

do Jason's DIY setup and get some nice synthetic ATF fluid from Redline or something...hopefully your pump is ok.

did you change the fluid? Remember that you probably scorched the fluid that's in there.
