Cool video, looks like a fun and fast track.
Maybe they are an early american g-force meter. Kind of like the abacus was an early form of a calculator. Otherwise, I am amazed they let you drive with them hanging there

Either way, cool video. I keep meaning to get to the NorCal tracks but haven't gotten out of SoCal yet.

haha, yes well I was being a little sarcastic. If its not causing harm to myself or others, not sure what the problem is. I dont see how clipping a phone to the dash is any different than a camcorder or track timer.

for our schools the lap timers and recorders have to be hard mounted (screwed in) and have a tether strap. We do allow for some suction cup mounts if the object is under 2 lbs and the cup is rated 20 lbs

It is an unneeded distraction, or could be a distraction.. which could lead to bad things. If an item is making a noise in your glove box, it can demand some of your attention.. when you are trying to focus on what your car is doing and what you are doing.

If the cellphone pops loose in a turn and clunks you in the arm - what happens next? same with the mirror item.. what if it falls off and goes down by the pedals.. now the heel of your foot is slipping on it.. what happens now?

When all of your focus and attention needs to be on what you are doing and how your car is behaving.. little distractions can lead to very bad things.. and they could easily be avoided by simply removing the distraction.

I guess it's up to you (and the club you run with) if you want to risk it.

There is no risk. Nothing is going to fall off and is no more of a distraction than the blinking lights and beeping noise on a camera.

There is a higher possibility of the camera falling off than those items. You can actually see this happening in the video, as at the end of the day the camcorder got loose and shifted to the side.

Lets just say the phone will be in the pocket next time so enjoy the video for what it is instead of staring at the phone.
