Default Want to buy a cheap set of rims to autoX, found these

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/17-WH...Q5fAccessories

I got a good deal on some Kumo shaved track tires (275/40/17) and I am wanting to try an event or two this summer to see if I like it. I'm trying not to spend much as I have way too many hobbies as it is. These ebay rims are 17X8.5s with a 35 offset for under $489 shipped. My main concern is if these will fit on the front and not rub? I don't have Brembos. I know I should be looking for at least a 9" wide rim but the best price I have found so far on those is about $750. I'm sure if I have fun I will step it up. Advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you're new to autocross and just want to try it out, don't spend money on wheels and tires. Do the events on your stock/current wheels and tires. You have a lot to learn and need lots of seat time before worrying about R-comp tires and special wheels.

Any details on this deal? I run the same size.

Well I have actually autocrossed before on my stock rims and tires and it understeered so bad it wasn't even fun. I was hoping a squared design would help with this. I'm not completely new to it, I have done it with different cars I have owned over the years, a Supra, Eagle Talon AWD, RX-7 TT, MR-2 Turbo, and even my Acura CL, the sad thing is even with well over 475hp in my Z is was the least fun out of all those cars because of the understeer.

Found some on craigslist, the guy advertised them for $40, so I was thinking $40 each and so I took $160 and the guy was like well they are $40 and he meant for the whole set! I didn't ask any questions haha.

Use an offset calculator to compare clearance.

Thanks, I agree these rims (MB Weapon I believe +27) seem to be a much better value. I am going to Discount Tire tomorrow to pick these up. Just can't decide if I want bronze or gunmetal.....hmmmmm

And just to clarify. I have read and from the info sharred that a 275/40/17 with a +27 is fine and will have no rubbing issues (I have all stock suspension and no rolled rear fenders). Am I going to be ok with the +27 offsets? They also offer this rim with a +17 but I'm not sure if that would also work. Any last minute suggestions before I purchase these rims? Thanks!

Go with +17 in Weapons, you can easily get 275/40-17's up front with that offset. I ran those exact wheels for 2 years.

I got the Weapons in Gunmetal 17x9 +27, I figure better safe than sorry and I can always add a spacer if I wanted to bring them out anymore. Total price with installation was around $625. Thanks again Terrasmak for pointing me in the right direction.

A big reason for the Z to understeer is simply overdriving the entry to the corner. This is REALLY EASY to do in the Z since there aren't the same "pitch" cues (e.g. the nose coming up) under hard acceleration, so you don't think you're going as fast as you actually are.

I cut my teeth driving formula cars so I don't have the tendency to look for the same cues as a lot of other drivers.
