Default Bought a 2006 - now I need track mod input from you

Maybe this should be placed under the Motorsport/Autox subforum? Anyway, here it goes...

Bought a fully loaded (Brembo, 18" Rays) 2006 350Z a few days ago. It only has 7.000 miles on the odometer and still looks/smells like new.

I live one hour away from Nürburgring and I have been told the stock trim simply does not cut it for the Ring. I am therefore looking to upgrade the car. However, I am on a limited budget so I will only buy what is absolutely necessary for the track.

So I was thinking something in the line of:

1. Stainless Steel Brake Lines
2. Pads
3. Brake Fluid Dot 4 or better
4. Rotors
5. Oil cooler

Which brands should I got for? Is there something missing that is necessary for high speed tracks? Oil temp/pressure is probably also required right?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

I look forward getting to know you all and the forum.

Best

/Kim

Congrats on your purcahse!

Yes, you should move this post to the track sub forum.

Sounds like you bought a coupe Track or Grand Touring model... they were the only trim equipped with Brembo brakes, and the wheels are actually 18" front and 19" rear RAYS Forged aluminum wheels.

I am jealous you live next to the ring... my dream is to go through there at speed!

I am sure once this gets moved to the correct forum you will get some replies... I don't race my car on circuits; so I have no valuable input.

Good luck!

Oh, and try searching the forums for answers!

Then that would be zero. The 350Z is track ready. Run 40 PSI in the tires and you are ready to go.

Rotors are fine, just swap sme nice pads on it. The oil cooler is nice, and will help with engine life, the easier one is a nice radiator. Front camber arms are a must if you want your tires to last,

ATE Super Blue DOT 4 brake fluid is what I use for AutoX / Track stuff. Their are some pretty good deals on this brake fluid with Hawk pads over in the vendor marketplace.

Welcome to the forums. Sounds like you got a good Z.

For me, the Z is not track ready, the braking system doesn't cope very well with track sessions. So the first thing to do, it's to put some Motul RBF600 brake fluid, PFC front discs and Pagid Yellow RS29 pads. The second step would be to put some coilovers and sway bars (I'm running BC Racing and whiteline and i'm really happy with the combo). For the Ring, because it's a really long track you should go for an High Capacity Oil Pan and an oil cooler, do not put some no names brands or you'll get oil leaks. If you've got some money left, get some Toyo R888. One last think, on a '06 models use motul 300V 15w50 and make sure it's always full before hitting the track.

Have fun on the ring and i'll see you there(I do the ring at least once a year).

Thank you all for the feedback. I will ask a moderator to move this thread to the AutoX/Road subforum.

I think I will go with StopTech rotors all around, Goodrich Brake Lines, Motul brake oil and a set of HAWK or Axxis pads.

Oil cooler is a no go as that will void the warranty (still one year left).

Are you aware of the oil consumption issue that 2006 manual Z's have? Start checking the oil every 500 miles too (if you don't already).

Yes I am aware of it. I believe it was only for the cars built between March and June 2006. I do not know when my car was built but I got 1 year warranty so I will keep an eye on it.

Normally I wouldn't buy a 2006 for that reason but I got such a sweet deal I could not say no.

If it were me, I'd just take it, in stock form, to the track and see what mods you need based on your level of driving and driving style.

Incorrect, my car was built in Oct 2006 and is considered a 2006.5 and I still had oil consumption engine replacement at 28,000 miles. How does an oil cooler void your warranty? An oil catch can, setrab oil cooler, and a larger oil pan are highly recommended.

Yes, and oil pan spacer is a great mod i missed. Extra oil will help it run cooler.

OP, what is your level of track experiance?

I would prefer a larger oil pan over a oil pan spacer unless he has budget constraints.

Hawk DTC 70/60 pads & an oil cooler are my suggestions, but I'm a little biased after destroying an engine on my first track day.

Man, larger oil pan + oil cooler with a motor that already consumes oil... longer and expensive oil changes ftl!

I have been on the Ring with my Supra before, but I consider myself a noob on the track.

All engine mods are a no go as it will void my warranty Nissan told me.

thats not really how warranty works. by your logic installing an aftermarket spoiler or new stereo headunit would void your cars warranty for anything.

He's in Germany. The US's Magnusen-Moss Warranty Act does not apply there. He also has the TUV to deal with.
