How rad are they? Can you give a comparison? Based on their advertising they sound like they are gunning for the NT01 crowd, while making them look like a full slick. Very curious...

I recently sold my G35 sedan and purchased a 2006 350z. I want to begin AutoX with several of my friends that currently run and I want a seperate wheel/tire AutoX setup that my DD wheels. A friend of mine is offering me 17X8 Enkei RPF1's with 255/40/17 RS3 tires.

Not knowing the 350Z yet or having much AutoX time, is a 17x8 with a 255 too small perform well for our cars?

several of my buddies used to run 17's to autox and drift on... you will have no issue, and tires will be cheaper

Thanks travlee. I am not so much concerned with the wheels being 17's. As you said, I like the price of the tires! I am more concerned with the wheels only being 8" wide and running 255's. I have read through this thread and most people are running wheel/tire combo's much larger than that. Will the car over power an 8"/255?

Once you become competitive, your class will dictate wheel size. If you run SCCA C Street, you need the width & offset wheel your car came with from the factory + or - 1" in diameter. Most Z's came with 18x8 front and 18x8.5 rear.

If you already have some mods and you fall into STU, I'd go as wide as you can. 10.5" is what most of the competitive guys are running.

Thanks, Trav, but no, I don't qualify to chime in here. Do not use my car for either discipline so not going to talk theory over reality.

^^^ This. What theory I will talk is about reading the rules. Doesn't matter what the hot setup is if it bumps you a class (or two).

For reference:

Street (Stock): Page 72, 2016 Solo II Rules

Pertinent paraphrase (substantiating eye-5's remark):

"13.4 WHEELS
Any type wheel may be used provided it complies with the following:
A. It is the same width as standard and as installed it does not have an offset
more than ±7.00 mm (±0.275”) from a standard wheel for the car. The
resultant change in track dimensions is allowed.
B. Wheel (rim) diameter may be increased or decreased 1” from the standard part."

I would imagine at least a few of the STU guys are on 11's. The newer gen street tires are a little wider than there predecessor's and work a little better on the larger wheel.
