When contemplating whether I should go 17 or 18 here's what I've been taking into account
17" pros:
Cheaper wheels
Cheaper tires
Lighter wheels
Lighter wheel/tire combo
Less chance of rubbing(dependent on how low you are)
17" cons
Smaller tire selection

I have 18" RPF-1s (matte black, which always look smaller...) and still look better than 17" silver or SBCs. I understand the way the car looks is lower on the priority list especially in this sub-forum.

only reason I went with 18's is the rims tend to be wider, and the tires tend to be wider.
Edit.
Progression was stock tires on stock rims.
Hankook RS3s on 9.5 w RPF1s
Then Z1 Star specs on 9.5 RPF1s for regulations.
Now Hankook TD soft compound on 10.5 rpf1s

Im running 18x9.5 +15 PF01's with Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 275*40*18R /245*40*18 F I can't run smaller wheels than 18's because my Akabono brakes won't clear. For that matter I had to move to the Enkei wheels because my 18" Ruff Racing wheels wouldn't quite clear. Its amazing how much 18" wheels inner wheel diameters can change.

I'm currently running hankook v12:
245/35/19 19x9.5 +22 Front;
275/35/19 19x10.5 +22 Rear.
My rear are bald, front still have 50%.
Should I just replace the rear with the same tire or replace all 4 tires to something like RS3 in 265/285?
I'm still fairly new to racing in general. About half dozen autoX and one track day.
