Default Who wants carbon ceramic replacement rotors?

http://turbinebrakerotors.com/index.php

They don't have anything for our cars but if we can get enough interest maybe they would consider making some OEM Brembo replacements.

I dropped them a line to see if they would be interested in expanding their lineup. Who else would be interested?

The only other alternative I know of would be Stoptechs but thats major money for carbon-ceramics.

Seems interesting but odd that there are no prices or ordering links.

Their claims are hard to believe - "Estimated $900 per year fuel savings & reduced emissions in an average North American vehicle from the reduction in un-sprung weight". Hell, I probably only spend $1200 a year on fuel. That seems like a lot of savings for a 35lb weight reduction.

Maybe they are referring to a long distance trucker driving 1,000,000 miles per? lol

Eh. Marketing. What are ya gonna do. I don't know how they came up with their numbers.

Here's some hope....

"Tom,

Thanks for your email. Yes we are planning to offer rotors for import
cars. We just attended the PRI show in Orlando and we were asked by at
least 100 different individuals about different import vehicles. We are
currently re-evaluating our new product launch schedule and will add your request to the planning.
Please let me know the size of the rotors(diameter & thickness).
Regards,
Ralph H
President"

Excellent that they responded so fast.

Please tell them about Akebono size 14 front/13.8 rear rotors. I'm in for those depending on quality & price.

Thanks

I hate to burst the bubble here, but there's no way these rotors will be less than $2k for a complete set, and at that price, you'd be much better just going with a full BBK.

Just to give you guys some perspective, Stillen's carbon ceramic brake upgrade for the R35 is $16,000.

Also, you get much better feel/response with conventional steel brake rotors, rather than carbon ceramic rotors. Look at how many race teams actually use carbon ceramic rotors...

I'm gonna shoot him back some specs on OEM Brembos and the Akebono.
Anyone have some nice diagrams or maybe a PDF of the stock rotor and hat dimensions for both applications?

I'm also going to include this thread to show the amount of interest.

Pricing is a concern and I can't speculate on the price. However, I'm pretty sure these rotors are some sort of different manufacturing process than the BBK companies use. These, appear to be at least, a two piece rotor surface (meaning, the rotor itself is two piece, not the traditional hat/rotor 2 piece design.)

Some of the big name racing teams do run carbon ceramic. I really think it's the price that makes this technology inaccessible to the majority of grassroots motorsports. My biggest concern is trying to get them to make something for the platform. If they end up being junk rotors, I'm sure the Z community will sort them out and judge them in the future. With the increased numbers of Z's now on the track, more rotor options are a good thing.

Also, found a link that may be good to show them the amount of interest for their products.

holy smokes, replacement ferrari carbon ceramic rotors are $11,000 for the set.

How much do you guys realistically think a set for the Z/G's would cost, or what is the amount you would pay? Just curious

Race teams run steel rotors because carbon brakes are illegal in most racing circuits. I didn't know that about the brake feel. Which cars did you drive back to back on steel and carbon brakes?

Heh.. I won't sit here and pick this apart, but do yourself a huge favor and do some serious research before you mess around with braking components.

Also, kinda hard to trust a company who on their home page to give you warm fuzzies about their research blantently steals a photo from another industry-leading brake component manufacturer with 1,000s of race victories in every class from Formula 1 to NASCAR to almost any series you can think of.

I'll be sending off some emails shortly.. thanks for the links.
