New NASA Class for 2012: Spec Z
I pushed hard for the wheels. No one was grossly against it, but some liked their 9/10 combos which I understand. I'm glad they accepted it.
Right!
Right!
The 2014 rules have been released. Here are a few of the highlights:
1. Ballast can be mounted in the trunk area, as well as, the passenger floorboard.
2. If you remove your heater core, you can now also remove the box.
3. 10" wide wheels can be used at all 4 corners.
4. Horsepower limits will be imposed at every event, not just the NASA Championships.
5. You can add a submersible pump to transfer fuel from one side of the tank to the other to prevent pump starvation only. Read this one carefully.
6. You can remove all wipers, wiper motors, and related assemblies.
7. The diff bushing can be replaced by a non-metallic bushing.
Please read all rules carefully. Remember, what I've typed here are only the Cliff's notes.

Correct (and Akebono unnecessary, IMO).
Here is my video from Sunday's Spec Z Race at Barber. I was supposed to start 3rd however NASA decided to invert the field 10 minutes prior to the race thus putting me back to 8th. Within 1 and half lap I pushed my way to the front and stayed there for the duration of the race.

Enjoy. I'll try to post Saturday's race shortly which really showed some close nose to tail action for the entire race.

What size of tubing did you guys use for your rollcage? I know in CCR it states .120, but I have read on nasa forums that someone got away with .095. And can you attach rollcage tubing to uni-body at all? like A-pillars
thanks
thanks

Yup, but it is a long story. What NASA Region are you in?
DRY WEIGHTS (no driver, no fluids)
2501-3000 lbs
1.500” x 0.120” Seamless Alloy (4130), Seamless mild steel (CDS Mechanical) or DOM
1.750” x 0.095” Seamless Alloy (4130), Seamless mild steel (CDS Mechanical) or DOM
1.750” x 0.120” ERW
3001-4000 lbs
1.750” x .120” Seamless Alloy (4130), Seamless mild steel (CDS Mechanical) or DOM
No ERW allowed.
This is SEPARATE from the minimum post-race weights of the SpecZ (with driver) for each of the 3 engine types. The rules end up being written around the weight of the driver, which is silly in my opinion, and the weights are too high after the update last year - again my opinion. We are building a bunch of low horsepower pigs.
Cheers.
