ABS failed - help
Had a problem this weekend at the track. I was going into a corner and braking from 90 down to about 30 on a tight corner and the ABS failed to work properly. I locked up the right front and almost went off the track. I flat spotted the right front and ruined the tire. The ABS light and the slip lights came on. When I got back to the paddock and shut everything down there was a noise coming from the area of the brake fluid resevior area. It sounded like a fan or a pump runing. I thought it would stop once it cooled down but never did and I had to disconet the battery to get it to stop. Once I did that the lights on the dash went out and I didn't have any furture issue as I drove home.
Any ideas as to what cause this would be appreciated

There should be a ABS code to help you to diagnose what failed. Do you have access to UpRev Cipher or CONSULT to pull it?
Are you certain there was no CEL before you headed out onto the track?

No there never was a CEL just the ABS light and the slip light. This was on my 4th 20 min session of the day and had had no issue to that point. And I don have UpRev to pull and codes and since there never was a CEL I'm not sure how to get any info.
Photos of tire appreciated.
And now a word from the guy who has been following me for years. Not sure why but its kind of creepy.

Sounds like a failed abs unit from the abs pump running, but since it restarted you may be good. I did basically the same thing, and I know what my cause was. I had my coolant reservoir to full, it overflowed at the track and it goes right on the rt front tire. ABS flipped , flat spotted a tire straight to cord.
Before we relied so heavily on computerized systems, we just used our foot to control our braking. The right foot can still be used to brake properly even if the ABS system fails.

This was the fifth lap of my fourth session of the day and I don't think I was into ABS, the right just locked up and the lights came on, it happened so quickly. I hadn't been into ABS on the other laps. I still not sure what happen to cause it and while the ABS pump continued to run.

If this was truly an ABS failure, the system will held the code. UpRev Cipher allows you to pull codes from the engine, ABS and BCM systems. You may try to access it through use of a Nissan CONSULT system, but you'll have to pay a dealer. The UpRev system is worth it for that feature alone.
I've raced with and without ABS for 25 years. The problem is the weight of the Z33 makes it hard to easily modulate threshold braking late in a race, or after multiple sessions. ABS makes a positive difference on the track.

I just went to the garage to check my oil level after the ZdayZ road trip and my module started making noise when I closed the car door.
I now have the battery disconnected, and I'm looking for the cheapest replacement I can find.
Nissan replaced the thing a couple years ago too.

How are your hubs? I was always curious if hub flex could push into the ABS sensors on the wheels, and cause it to fail. I thought that happened to me one time when ABS failed at Laguna. I came back into the pits, drove around the cold pit a little bit and literally pumped the brakes. The ABS light turned off, and all was fine from then on.
There was no play when I flushed the brake system about a month ago.
It was sitting in the garage all day Monday, just quietly minding its own business. Then I open and close the door and it starts making noise....didn't turn the car on or even move it.
I did notice what I thought/think was a rear wheel balance issue between 85 and 90 mph on the trip home. I need to flip the tires on the wheels after the next event, so I will be re-balancing then.
*update*
Left the battery terminal disconnected for a while (10-15 min) then reconnected and it's behaving. Took it around the block and did some hard stops below the ABS threshold then parked it. Still quiet ATM.
I will test the ABS function at the track in a couple weeks.
Still looking for another control module to have on hand.
