Default Ideas for Canards

I need to get more front down force any way possible. I am looking into doing canards along with a few other things. There are tons of variations out there, but how do you get them to shape to your bumper? Or do you just buy ones that will fit your bumper? I am considering just making my own. For those of you that have them, what route did you go?

Use clay and an old bumper for practice.

**** that, just buy a sheet of 48x24 1/8th ABS off ebay for 20 bucks and you can make 10 iterations without running out of material. Nice thing is it is plastic, just hit it with a heat gun to mold to the bumper.

/Problem solved.

Thin cardboard, make design, transfer to balsa or thin ply, fiberglass over and mount.

That is what will be happening on my garage.

Traced a few DTM race car canards, followed the outline and install location. Used plastic sheets for the shape then used dry composites to form the shape. Took quite some time. Fibreglast has a few instructional videos with supplies.

You can also create a buck piece then make a negative mold with silicone rubber and fill with casting resin. I have an over fender kit in progress using this technique.

Edit: close up pic.

Mr Sparcp, please clue me in in the dry composite you used.

I'm going to rebuild the v2 canards on my car, I believe they are lacking

You can use dry carbon fiber or dry fiberglass. Dry carbon is a bit more difficult to use as it requires an oven to cure. Dry fiberglass is what's used in the medical industry, such as a broken bone cast. It is water activated and very strong. The canards I made was a hybrid of 2-3 layers dry fg and 1 layer of dry carbon.

I need my canards to be refreshed. I'm wondering if I should just have them repainted or dipped or covered.
