Default 2016 Race Fuel Pricing

Here we are, in the middle of a oil glut with some of the cheapest gas prices around, and the price of race fuel seems to be immune to any of it. My SCCA T1/T3 Z33 is tuned for 100 octane unleaded, yet the price for that fuel seems stuck at around $10/gallon. It's always a bit more when you go to the track, but it's hard to find any sort of discount even if you go to a local supplier and carry your own jugs. Also, E85 is not allowed in SCCA racing and fuel testing is a regular occurance in impound.

Here in Colorado, one longtime race fuel distributor Pynergy (formerly known as Duggan Oil) has simply elected to get out of the race fuel biz altogether. That leaves only a few suppliers left in the state. Wondering what's the best prices for race fuel (at either a pump or distributor) for race fuel is in other parts of the country?

They are trying to level the playing field in some ways (the turbo cars already have ENOUGH of an advantage). The other consideration is fuel testing itself would become too complex.

With oil trading under$30/barrel in the US, and China's weakened economy, you might think race fuel would drop as well. I'm seeing 87 selling for under $2 in the SE.
Hopefully the trend will expand for everyone to enjoy!

When did you purchase that fuel? You might have been one of the last customers. I called down on Wed (1/20/16) and the lady I talked to said they would not be refilling their tanks as the entire business was moving. They are getting out of the race fuel business, so I wonder how profitable it was.

Anybody else have any current race fuel prices? I know the guys in the SE or Cali must be racing or tracking their Zs. What are you paying for Sunoco, VP100 or whatever?

Thanks Terrasmak- didn't know that Trick fuels were still around. But I sure hope somebody out there can buy 100 octane fuel for less than $8/gal.
