Default 17s vs 18s square setup for track

Hi Everyone,

Just picked up my first 350z that will be a 100% dedicated track car. Currently it sits on the 35th anniversary 18x8.5 square wheels. The car is dyno'd at 296 to the wheels. I would like to run 255 square setup for NASA TT4.

I am leaning towards 17s with a higher aspect ratio. Is this typically what the Z community runs on the track when dealing with square wheels, or are 18s the way to go?

Wheel and tire size are often dictated by what the rulebook and sanctioning body allow. In your case, a 17" 255 square setup might be the best choice if you can find some light 17 X 9.0 alloys to reduce unsprung weight.

Judging from location, it is possible it was on Church's dyno...

Unless you want to weigh #texas, you are going to want to detune or get on a less happy dyno for NASA certification.

Intriguing isn't it? Unless the engine is fully built, even a rev-up DE w/ full bolt-ons would never reach 296. Who did the tune?

Mods:

Plenum Spacer
06 intake with velocity stack
Headers
Full exhaust

Tuned by Church. May need to get it detuned so that I can run TT4. Car weighs 2800.

Yeah, I have not gotten it dyno'd myself yet. Still working to get it drive-able.
