Nah, just a bracket I happen to have laying around. Still getting some vibration even with the rubber spacer to the windshield, but there is nothing else solid to mount to so I'm not sure what else I can do...

I have no complaints with the Akebono setup, they stop extremely well and I have no brake fade on the track. Having to take wheels off to check pad wear is a bit of an inconvenience, but I do that between every event anyways, so no big deal

 

have you thought of putting in a pro wide mirror that probably mounts on each side instead of in the middle?

 

I got a multi-pane mirror that goes most of the way across and couldn't get used to the breaks between panes. It's sitting in the attic.

 

just going to post this here because you just did your rear hatch. I tried to pull mine off yesterday and had a hell of a time. got it propped up and secured almost vertical so I can access the nuts easily. and couldn't get them off! 12 mm had play, so I tried a different wrench, same problem, acting like 11 mm. an actual 11mm wrench won't fit. it's a hell of a thing. I also experienced this with the hatch strut bolts, 12mm too much wiggle room and stripped one of them, had to cut it off. 11mm doesn't fit. I tried several SAE wrenches in that size range and none of them fit. I don't know what the hell is up with these nuts, never seen an 11.5 mm before. I'm going to take it to a shop and pay them to remove it so I don't knock myself out with the MFer falling on my head.

 

I removed the nuts on the car side of the hinge and removed the hatch with the hinge attached, then it's easy to swap the hinges. I don't remember having any issues removing either though.
Edit: I guess it helps that I have no headliner to get in the way.

 

That's a good idea. thanks. I am not sure why I didn't think of it except the headliner being in the way. you could also easily lift the hatch afterward. so this is a good idea. this is what happens when you spend 3 days straight in the garage and don't drink enough alcohol. 😂 I ran out Friday night and was too lazy to go to the drugstore. I mean if it weren't for alcohol none of these cars would ever get built....

 

Too little is dangerous as it too much, has to be just right for the wrenching to go smoothly

 

and it cuts down on the cursing.... I know I need more if I start yelling whenever things go wrong instead of laughing...

I signed up for PCA VIR 3 day event Fri-Sat-Sun next week. Should be fun.

 

Just wanted to mention that I sold the OEM rear hatch and the street faction CF wing. I still have the Plastics4Performance 370z windshield in storage if someone is interested in making their 370Z lighter.

 

storage space does become a problem after a while. rentals are $100/month around here so I looked up storage sheds and found a 7x7 Craftsman fully enclosed with a floor, some sort of plastic material, for $1,000. seems like a lot but pays for itself in 10 months. or I could just keep using the spare bedroom... lol. My kids never come and visit anymore anyway.

 

curious, how much did the oem hatch bring? Ill be selling mine soon. you sell locally?

 

Just getting back into the swing of things after a weekend at VIR. To answer your question the hatch went for $170 to someone local via craigslist.

So my trip to VIR was eventful. Not even half way into the 250 mile trip I got a real bed vibration in the truck. Stopped to discover the rear left tire has thrown a belt and was bulging out. Put on the spare tire and made it about 100 miles before it decided to disintegrate itself bending the crap out of the sheetmetal in the wheel well. At this point it was like 30 miles to VIR so I threw the original bad wheel back on and hobbled my way to the paddock at 40 mph. Fortunately my buddy who lives near the race track was able to source 2 replacement tires for me before I headed back.

As far as the track is concerned it was a good weekend if not the fastest one. Not sure what the deal with VIR was but the grip was not quite where it should've been. My best lap was 0.9 seconds off my person best. But overall it was good and fun time.

 

Reviewing the video seems the rear traction was lower than before, could be due to the weight reduction that was mostly in the back, could be because I put new Goodyear 3R tires on the front and old ones on the back. Either way in a couple places the rear would slip and I had to lift to bring it back resulting it a few tens of a second loss. I'm gonna stiffen the front a couple clicks for the next event see if that will compensate for the lighter rear end. Here's a couple of laps that illustrate my point

 

Sucks your tire blew, never think to check the spare haha. Some pretty good laps, I miss VIR already, I was just starting to get some confidence in the car and my abilities on Sunday after some good sessions. Whats your best lap time?

 

I believe the best time last spring was like 2:11.7? But that was on Hoosier slicks so gripper tires for sure.

 

Not bad, do you know what time the spec Z guys run?

 

quick search of nasa-ma site shows the lap record for vir full for spec z was 2:12.372 in 2014

 

oh ok, I was thinking they were running below 2:10 for some reason. Im trying to figure out what the potential is for my Z, thats good to know. 2:12 was my best lap so far but theres a lot more in the car.
