yeah I think this will be the last time I mess with heat wrap unless it makes a real difference. it still gets itchy doing any other work around those tubes but not quite as bad as wrapping them. I also didnt wear the proper PPE. a little mesothelioma never hurt no one.
nothing Id be aware of. tin foil maybe! lol. DEi might make some custom wrap like they have available for small lines. I cant imagine something like that being cost effective enough to be worth it though.
The question is, does the fiberglass wrap act as a heat sink or insulation? well, it's insulation. so there should be much less heat around the wrap than around the pipes.
Last weekend was the Audi club VIR fall event and my last event of the season. The conditions were excellent and the car once again performed flawlessly. I was able to run all the sessions including the Sunday late afternoon twilight session. That's really magic hour, the light is low, the air is cool but the track is still hot and sticky. I was able to set a new PB of 2:09.8 even though the rear tires were starting to cycle out. I think with fresh rubber all around another 1/2 second is possible.
A few fast laps from the twilight session that was combined Red/Black/Blue group
My buddy Scott showed up without a car so I let him drive mine for a session. He wasn't used to the layout and actually managed to flip the kill switch *twice* at full speed
I did have one agricultural excursion in turn 3. I was still running out of revs between 2 and 3, even with the higher rev limiter, so I was playing with shifting to 4th and back down to 3rd. Apparently there really isn't enough time to do that....
It definitely good to finish a season and not have major repairs to do over the winter. I do have maintenance plans, including a pair of new tires to replace the cycled out rears, new harnesses inside as the old ones are ancient and usual fluid flushes and alignment. I might also pick up a new SA2025 helmet now that they are becoming available. Time and budget allowing I might also do new bushings in the rear and possibly a deeper oil pan swap.
On a related note, as I might've mentioned before I've developed an HPDE app called BetterLap TrackView that provides participants with a live schedule but also is a data logger during event sessions and provides drivers with live feedback on their performance and that of other drivers in the same session. Both our local Audi club chapter as well as northeast Audi club (NEQ) use it now. During last weekend I was testing a new unreleased version that connects via BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) to an OBD reader and logs data such as RPM, temps, throttle position, etc. The test went well and I now have a bunch of new logs to work thru so I can build in the ability to view this data in the 3D viewer, graphs, etc. I'm also planning to add ability to specify max limits for some of these readings so that the app can warn drivers (both via popups and audio announcements) if for example coolant or oil temps exceed the limit.
This is in no way intended to be an advertisement for my app but for those interested, the apps as well as event results and ability to play back recordings is available on my website http://betterlap.com
that sounds interesting! The last two years I haven't hit the track as much as I wanted, so I haven't bothered logging. I know I need to work on certain turns and that's what I focused on at thunderhill (5 & 9) and Sonoma (4, 7, 12). I feel incredibly fast now compared to the previous year. when I feel like I've got the cars and my skill level up to par, then I'll start looking at PB lap times.
