2006 350Z Roadster - OEM roll bars
I am totally new to the SCCA scene and wondered if you experienced Z enthusiast can help me with the OEM roll bar question. Does the OEM roll bar protection behind each seat meet most standards for SCCA track days? I am sure it does for solo autocross events but unsure for novice level track days at most tracks.
Definitely NOT for NASA, and I would doubt it for SCCA also. For HPDE, it often depends on the track and/or the organization running the event. So check in advance before registering for an event. FWIW, I went thru the same conundrum with my convertible Z. I ended up buying a coupe because the roadster was never "approved" .
^^^ This is what I'm told as well- the track doesn't set rules, the sanctioning group does. You should be able to run with unaltered og bars, you will def want to check on helmet requirements. Make sure the car has 0 leaks and will pass their safety inspection.

Here's the straight rulebook details on SCCA track events for verts:
It is highly recommended that all convertible vehicles be equipped with an aftermarket roll bar that meets or exceeds the standards set in the SCCA Time Trials Rules. However, convertible vehicles may participate in Track Night events provided the vehicle meets at least one of the following criteria and is not subject to any of the below exceptions:
- The vehicle is equipped with an aftermarket roll bar that meets or exceeds the standards set in the SCCA Time Trials rules.
- The vehicle is equipped with documented factory installed roll over protection (examples of manufacture documented roll over protection would include hydroformed and reinforced a-pillars or windshield frames and factory installed roll bars and/or “pop-up” bars that are designated as roll over protection.
- The Vehicle is a 2006-year model or newer.
Exceptions: In addition, vehicles that were manufactured since 2006 that fall into any of the below categories must meet the criteria stated above for factory or aftermarket roll over protection:
- Vehicles equipped with factory V8 or forced induction engine
- Vehicles modified meaningfully beyond the factory performance potential (examples: engine swaps, aftermarket forced induction)
Note: Targa and T-Top vehicles are classified as "hard tops" and do not have to meet the terms and conditions of the convertible policy.
My reading of these rules indicate your '06 ZR would not be eligible without a supplemental rollbar built for the car. Check with your local SCCA region to be sure, however.

Almost every sanctioning body will enforce the "broomstick" rule, meaning the top of your helmet must be below a line drawn from the top of the windshield to the top of the rollbar. In the Z, you cannot achieve that without an after-market roll bar. And if you have that installed, your soft top will not be functional.
