I didnt get a chance to talk to him. It looked super clean. Compared to the Z it was no match but was fun to hang behind him a few corners. There was a fully built racecar cayman that smoked me. And of course this ACR.
I ended up getting 57 laps in that day. pretty cool. There was a new Z06 there too, it sounded amazing.
oh, I misunderstood, I thought you drove the Cayman that day. you were in your Z?
I put in 120 mi this am and it did great even with shitty all weather tires. at the end of it though, my right knee and ankle were sore, but mainly that's from not stopping for a break. it's one of the things I don't really like about a trailered off-road car, is how do you do endurance testing after modifications? aside from just driving it illegally? see, I couldn't imagine going to the track in this car without doing these miles. maybe 120 is more than needed but on a track like Thunderhill West, which is 2 mi, very fast, very short, in a 20 minute session I'm doing 30 mi. give or take. so the usual on grid or speed SF gives you five sessions, so that's about right... and I don't like having mechanical failure at the track. so preparedness is something I obsess over and I haven't had a breakdown yet so it's helpful to me anyway.
need to get the cruise hooked up with that GK adapter or a custom set of buttons on the dash for cruise. on, off, set. Don't need resume. so I think fun little projects like that is what I'll be doing with this car over The summer/fall. because I need to free up the large garage bay for other projects.

Yup I was in the Z, it did very well. No issues thankfully. I live in a pretty rural area so I'll drive the Z on some back roads to do a shake down before a event and after mods. Its def. not ideal and illegal but you really dont have much of a choice. My buddy has a shop with a dyno so we will strap it down to it and make a few pulls as well.

I def could not get away with that around here. got pulled over by a cop just a few days ago. last weekend. he said I looked like a street racer and they're cracking down. said he could smell my exhaust, but I think that was just bait to get me to admit something. but when he saw up close that I'm an older dude, we just spent a few minutes talking about thunderHill which he races on his bike.
so, on the topic of garage tools, it is miserable dealing with the rear diff on a creeper. I got a good workout but that caused me to look up the Maxjax
again. I could drill a test hole to see if my garage floor is 4 in thick. I could pour to foundation slabs if necessary but I really don't want to do that. The MaxJax would touch the ceiling at the height of the columns but there isn't enough room even to raise the car more than 4 ft. due to ceiling height. and I would have to pull down the garage door opener. I feel like this garage is not worth the trouble because of that ceiling.
so I'm looking at QuickJack again. in conjunction with race ramps wheel cribs. I already have two 10-in cribs so I would need another pair. The idea is you use the quick jack to get the car raised, then use wheel cribs for most work. for anything requiring 2 ft of height, which is convenient for some jobs, then you've got room for HD jack stands. The jack points are up about 2 ft when the wheels are sitting on the cribs and I use 12 ton jack stands for the height. I can do all of this without a quick jack but it takes about an hour to get the car into position and then back down again. and it's dicey sometimes. with the QuickJack and the cribs I could get the car up in about 5 minutes. so this will be my next garage purchase most likely. home Depot has them for a discount.
I'm in the fun stage now of not needing heavy wrenches or sockets, and working on things like gauges. and one thing I want to do is the rear bumper. I won't be installing a wing, just a hatch mounted spoiler. but I do want a couple of bash bars front and rear for the jack points.
enjuku racing has some interesting stuff. limitless auto fab and ER spec have offerings. I'll have to cut a hole in the front for the jack point but I love the idea of having one in that spot for quick lifting. The rear bar will be visible but I think instead of going with a new cover I'm just going to cut bottom of the OEM for the exhaust. which currently is melting the bottom of the bumper cover.
interesting design. way more compact. that might be a better choice with wheel cribs. I think I'll stick with the quick jack because the Cayman is hard to get up in the air safely.
MotorsportReg just notified me of a track alert with turn8 this Sunday, a steep discount due to low sign up so I jumped on it. this will be my first open track day and first time in the Z in over a year. The car is nothing like it was last year. I was on the same track two months ago in the Cayman so it's still fresh. it'll be interesting to compare the two cars. tempted to buy new tires right away but no time, just going to run the Continental ECS on the OEM wheels. this is a good transition. I ran those same tires last year but everything else in the car has been upgraded since then. My next event is in June, so maybe by then I will have the new tires on the Hypergrams and DTC pads. I should start recording my lap times for comparison between the two cars. until I get a Garmin catalyst, I'm stuck with the phone app....
yeah, I really don't like putting up with the phone apps. Track addict works fine and I can even stick it in the console and let it just do lap timing, but I would rather have the timing and advice features as well.
I will probably get the '60s and only swap them in at the track. I really like the HP Plus pads on the street. they do put out a ton of dust though. The Titan 7s on my Cayman are constantly covered so much that I forgot what color the wheels are originally.
I've tried logging apps, I even built one myself at one point, but in the end I just use a camera with GPS receiver and overlay the data over the video once I get home. I find loggers an unnecessary distraction while driving.
I'm reaching the end of novice to where I'm pretty good on track and I want to work on technique. what I don't like about track addict is that I have to manage the Bluetooth OBD2, and a camera, and GPS. it's a distraction. I haven't recorded anything in the past year because I got tired of fiddling with gadgets. in another year I'll be in slow advanced, or group 4 in NASA, and might get into TT. That's the extent of my goals. I want to have a switch that turns on two or three cameras and another switch to turn on the Garmin. I do not want to screw with a GD phone app.... 😉
I will use track addict this Sunday since it's the first time on this track in the Z. My previous run in March in the Cayman was not recorded but back in October my best lap was 1:34.427. That's stock with only new rotors and pads. I'm expecting the Z to be much faster.
thats cool, im sure it will be much faster. Another feature the garmin has is the optimal lap, it will take all your best sectors and stitch them together and kinda show you what your capable of and when you nail a sector and then hit traffic. The coaching is really cool and fun to look at in between sessions. I got the DTC 60s for the cayman, whatever pads it had were trash. I ran the hawk hp + on the Z before switching to the DTC 70 and they were good for the street.
hmm. The description says that the 70s are extreme track pads not suitable for the street. it's really no big deal to swap pads so maybe I'll just pick some up for the Akebonos and use them on the track. My Cayman is grounded until I install the numeric shift cables. I think I'm just going to put it in the primary garage and jack it up to do a bunch of stuff like I did with the Z last year. there is a drawback to doing that but I have a reasonable to do list.
