VIR before restoration
For those who've been there but haven't seen this footage, here's how VIR looked like in 1998 before it was restored into a working race track again. The track reopened just two years later in 2000. I was there for the first time in 2006 and everything was still fairly fresh after the restoration. Since then they did a lot of upgrades and additional development and when I was there a few weeks ago I noticed they are now clearing area to build a 3rd row of villas past the uphill esses. The plans always called for 3 sets of villas but due to budget constraints only two were built.

VIR has become a world class track for sure! Never been there but the events that are televised are outstanding. And, if memory serves, aren't the Runoffs there this year? Thanks for sharing that find!
Yup, this definitely is an example on how to run a track well. They've done a great job over the years. Here's one more video from before VIR shut down 1974. This is SCCA running in 1967-68 time period.

Yes, VIR will be fulfilling its second year of a two-year Runoffs contract in 2023. Last year they had record rain storms that really made VIR a Runoffs a splash to drive! VIR is an amazing track with many, many driving challenges in the dry, so you'd be impressed, Mic.
