Default camera mounts?

Has anyone mounted a camera in their car without the aid of a rollbar mount?

I did see a picture of that but I'm thinking more behind the seats so that you can see the gauges better.

Yeah, I figure all I need is is some angle iron , a welder and various nuts and bolts and I'm there! Maybe a couple of 2x4's.

Well, I went to Home Depot and bought the square 3/4" aluminum
pipe and the U-bolts to mount to the headrests. I had an old tripod so I took it apart and mounted it to the rod. I can't tell you how easy this was. In an hour I had completed the project and was filming. There is a little vibration that can be fine tuned out but overall I was amazed. What a genius idea this was for under $12.00. Thanks Mcclaskz and Jtree007!

Actually I made a mount that goes INSTEAD of headrest with camera being were the headrest was. So camera tapes what passenger would see. It's made of 1/2" aluminum tube, incredible light, and simple.

I can take a pictures If I'll remember...

I'd like to see that. There's one available on the net but pretty expensive. Nice wheels!

Another place to try would be www.conecam.com (though the website name has changed, you'll be redirected). They have some cheap STRONG mounts that mount to basically anything in the car. The 3 suction cup one can mount to your rear window if you want....

I have also used the 3-CUP suction mount and stuck it to the
inside of the back window. Great location. Picks up the dash and
gauges too. However, the orginal video is upside down for me. I
gostta flip it first...

Just another option...

Doesn't it have to be strapped though?

The suction mount??? No, not at all. They make a big single "plunger" type as well. Both can be mounted inside/outside the vehicle on glass or body panels. I've even used them with the old style VHS cameras too. Very impressive...

Where I track my car they require SCCA rules and that means two hold downs.

If that is the case, can't you just buy another suction cup and mount a tether to the camera from there to count as the second hold down???

Remember, the rules state that not only the camera needs two forms of mounting in which the security strap is one, they also state that the camera must not come in contact with the driver if the mount breaks free in an accident. That may just work!

Yes, one of the links above shows a dual-mount suction style with a rod running between them. I have seen this style in person at local AutoX events. Works good... Lasts long tine...

Or, just install a full cage and mount the camera to the cross-bar!!!

Guys why to make things difficult?

Imagine a U-shaped piece of 1/2" aluminum pipe from Home Depot.

Dill a vertical hole in lovest part of U.

Turn whole thing upside down and insert instead of passenger headrest.

Attach camcorder on top with a bolt that fits your camcorder thread.

Dead simple and rock solid. 15 to 30 minutes to make. $5 spend. No vibrations, nothing. Looks cool, especially if painted in black. Camera angle is regulated by changing angle of passenger seat.

I tape all my autocrosses with it, and always get comments on how cool and smart the mount is.
