940 PAX, 26th of 99 in both raw time and PAX score. 1st in Street Tire and managed to finally open a can of whoopass on the other two STis in class to end up 2nd in overall in the series for Street Tire. A guy in a Street Mod E46 M3 took 1st.

Ran this time with zero toe all the way around, with 1° rear camber. Car felt extremely good on both turn-in and stability under braking. I am going to try this setup again this weekend on a different surface.

Hey Nick! It was good to see you out there. I did OK. Another second place. Got beat down by my class leader though. He was a good 1.5 seconds faster. That's the most he's beat me by in a while too. I think it hurt me bad that I got there so late I didn't get to walk the course. Felt like I was flying blind, especially since this was an overly technical course. Thanks for the compliment. I hope you can join the fun next time. Let me know if you want a ride next time you're out there.

Mike,

So, tell us again how the VDC does NOT work in reverse!!!

Did that mound do any damage to your car when you ran here a few months back?

yeah the abs does not work in reverse its kinda became my motto. I have a rear bumper here at home from when a ups driver backed into my car thats new that I still have not put on. So the one on the car when I was showing off was all ready damaged where the scca sticker was on the car. But oddly enough no damage. And it was fun drifting threw the course with no cones and faster than most.
I see Jim has been kicking some *** up there recently. Are you going to do the nationals at the end of this month?

Well, haven't done any SCCA stuff in a while, but have been running with a smaller club.

I'm usually about 1 second behind an S2000 that usually is TTOD (with a modded C3 vette in contention). A different S2000 and I are usually very close and battle for 3rd or 4th overall, depending on how some Gen1 RX-7's do. There's also an S/C Mr-2 that sometimes is near the top.

I'm thinking of getting a Hotchkis front sway, since I keep rolling over the outside of my front tires. Even with 40 PSI cold I am getting up on the edges. I'm definitely feeling more comfortable with the Z though, although I still tend to go too hot into corners and plow through them too much.

Running Kumho Ecsta V700, 265/35-18.

No less than 5 of our Tidewater Sports car club members will be participating at SEDIV. There will be 4 350z and one 1990 twin turbo. The days should be lots of fun!
Make sure to remember drivers need to be on the access list to get on base! This national event will help us see how we do against autocrossers in our respective classes.
PS The trim lines of the 350Z's are: two Touring AT's, one Track, and one six-speed manual MT.

Finally got this past weekend's Ontario Regional Event #7 results.

Overall I'm quite pleased. I had just finished a 7 day, 600 km mountain bike race in the Rockies on Sat and didn't land on the east coast until 1 AM Sunday. 4 Hours of sleep and I was ready to duke it out with some of Ontario's best (including at least one multiple National Champion).

Running on street tires, I ended up with a time 2.1 seconds off FTD and a raw time of 13th out of 68 competitiors. Since I was the only one in my class, I was PAXed for a total of 99.697 (16th of 68). Cool thing was that I beat two R compound equipped STIs including one which used to get me by 2 seconds at the start of the season.

Frankly, I felt I could have done a little better the last two runs (6th run was fastest). I had a run 3/10ths quicker on run 7, but punted a silly cone which I easily could have missed. Each run felt good, but at no time did I feel I had maxed out my opportunity.

Good question. From what I understand if a class is not filled (3+ cars), as in my case, then my time is paxed against the fastest times of other classes with identical preparation (Super Stock).

My PAX in BSS is .835. The Super Stock pax value for all complete classes was 45.522. That number divided into my PAX value of .835 resulted in a SS time of 54.517. My points were the result of that time divided into my best raw time. Had I been rated against the overall group's pax time of 54.317 (ie: regardless of preparation), my points would have been slightly less at 99.331.

Complicated stuff. I guess the best solution is to simply get FTD eh? Next year.

Here's a pic from Sunday while staging.

Back-to-back Solo2 weekends. Last weekend it was the Ontario Regional series (essentially the fast lads from Toronto). This past Sunday Montreal paid a visit. There were approximately 68 competitors and I managed to run 10th overall in raw time and only 1.2 seconds off FTD (which was 52.2 seconds).

Probably the best news for me was that these same Montreal guys spanked me by 4.6 seconds on June 6th, and 2.5 seconds on July 11th. Improvement is always nice to see.

don't have the final results as they've not been posted on the internet yet, but I entered my first autoX with the Z yesterday..... It was hosted by the Maverick Region Porsche Club, here in North Texas out at Mineral Wells. A little background is in order...
I had an S2000 which I traded in for my Z. The dealer just made me a great offer when we bought my wife her Pathfinder. I've attended a PCA intermediate autocross class, and had run one autocross hosted by the local S2000 club - also at Mineral Wells. So, I'm about as close to a novice autocrosser as you can get!!

Now, that being said - a comparo - racing the S was like walking a tight wire - very quick and capable, but a moment's inattention, and around you go! The S liked to dive into corners at a fairly high speed, and then maintain the speed through the corner; a momentum car if you will. The Z is a totally different beast. We ran 8 runs, and it took me till the 7th run to grasp the concept of slowing way the hell down before the corner and then powering out. It was fun playing with the torque! Going from a car that oversteers to a car that understeers is going to take some work getting used to!

The course was fairly technical - and had 3 places where a 1st gear downshift was in order - 3 hairpins; a slalom; and 3-4 long sweeping turns - mostly with a decreasing radius; and a couple of short straights. I had a blast, the new car was fun; and just being able to hang out with a bunch of cool porsches was neato.

My Z is totally stock - ran 36psi cold up front and 34.5psi cold in back - I'll be lowering the back a touch for the next race, but 36 up front felt fine.

I started at 96-97xxx for my first run, and finished at 90.0xx at my last run - FTD was 79.9xx, there were a couple of 80-81s and the vast bulk of the rest were between 86-89 and thank god there were people there even slower than me...

Enjoyed learning the new ride and look forward to more seat time fun!

What does everyone think of the classification system used by NASA vs. SCCA PAX? If you are not familiar with NASAX, it has base class of A-H, (350Z is D) then you are charged penalty points based on specific modifications within your class. For example, underdrive pulleys, +1.

Wooo Hooo! First trophy finish in my second official Autocross.

I finished 3rd of 15 in Novice class running BSN.
28'th of 61 total cars in overall by raw and PAX times.
If I would have run in BS, I would have finished 3rd there too.

Autocrossers...

Waiting for my times to post but they aren't anything to get excited about yet. I'm just starting out and looking for some advice.

Next year I'm going to take the driving school but in the mean time do you recommend any online or paperbound reading material that covers the techniques?

I'm coming from a motorcycle racing backgroung and though lane position is relatively the same, accel and braking I think are slightly different. I also have a habit of sliding since I'm not worrying about falling over if I miss the turn. ( I know... bad habit unless it turns into a controlled drift)

There are several books that cover driving techniques, but they more apply to road racing than autocrossing. Check out the Skip Barber School Going Faster and Ross Bentley's Speed Secrets.

I myself as going to take a little stab at tracking a motorcycle early next year... although I'm not sure if I can afford two track vehicles...
