After talking to a few people last night that had some very good questions, I thought it might be good to put the answers here as well.

Q. – Are the events mostly Competition.
A. – No. They are a HPDE first! The Time trial series only happened the last hour or so in the day. The other 7 or 8 hours of each day are dedicated to the school.

Q. – So I need to pass a Tech inspection. What’s involved, and what extra safety equipment is required
A. The Safety inspection is much like a NC state inspection, minus the emissions. We also look at things like Brake Fluid quality, ball joints, and battery security. A Pure stock car is fine, except convertibles which require a roll bar. Only if you are participating in the Time trial at the end of the day do you need the extra stuff such as harnesses and roll bars.

Q. – Are all the events on the schedule HPDE
A. Yes.

Q. – I heard that SA helmets are required.
A. Until the end of this season we are letting m95 and higher helmets. Starting January 1, 2006 all helmets must be SA2000 or higher. We are just following SCCA’s lead on this.

Let me know if there are any other questions
-Marty

Thumbs up

Got my registration confirmation today...

Come by and say "hi" to the dirty silver track model with X78 numbers.

Edit: So who here is going to be there?

Actually, I'm a little dissapointed in the Z turnout.... maybe it's my fault, I've been so busy at work & home I haven't been able to promote it like I usually do. But looking at the latest registration, there are only 13 Zs, and John I think you're the only 350Z so far (all the usual suspects have since sold theirs and bought M3s or Vipers)

Lots of 1st gen Zs, and a few Z31s and Z32s

The 1st time we tried to run full course (in '03 when it iced) we had almost 30 z cars registered.

Overall though, the event is very well attended - lots of BMWs and Corvettes, even a few exotics (Ferrari 328, Maseratti, and a Countach), well over 100 cars already signed up - should be very fun!

Yeah, I just reviewed the list, and I didn't see Rob McClaskz, Eric, nor Matt. (Traitors!) In fact, I really don't see anybody from last year...

I do see that Sean (bigdaddy) and Jim (roark) have their 350Zs registered though...

Oh, if I decide to do the Time Trial, can I just sign up and pay at the track? I'll bring my fire bottle with me...

Rob's bringing and M3, Eric is bringing a Viper, and I don't know about Matt.

Be sure to have your roll-bar teched using the time-trial section of the tech form. I'm afraid though that it will be full by the time the event gets here (if it's not already).

Both Tech days are full. But a Rollbar inspection can be done at the track, or better yet the night before at check in.

For those who are folling the thread but are one the fence, here is another good question I received last night:

Anybody have any information on track day insurance? Thought I'd bring it up since some people may want to bring their daily driver.
Here is a company that offers insurance just for HPDE's:
http://www.americancollectorsins.com/

Goto the 'Instant Quote' dropdown and select Drivers Ed.

But...
most insurance companies will cover incidents because this is considered Driver education.

We have at least 2 in the last few years file claims and there were no questions asked.

We have also people submit the "Driver Education" to get rates reduced. I think they left off the HP part of HPDE.

It's killing me I'll have to miss this VIR Full weekend, but my car isn't close to being done. I hope to have the cage put in in Feb. I should be ready for South course. I will probably make the Tarheel bmw march VIR Grand course, that looks interesting... I might have to come up and heckle y'all though. John you better get past Matt Gs 2:22 last year and my 2:25. Shouldn't be hard with your suspension set up well. The sad thing is, I even converted my Dad. He just bought a 97 E36M3 as well. Though he still has the G35c and the '70 240Z. Good luck. Less brake, more gas...

yellow seems crowded. will i be good to go in that or would green be better as far # of people?
It's probably not going to matter... we're capping the yellow and green groups at 40, and they'll all be full by the end of the month. Depends on your comfort level really. If you'd be more comfortable, we can leave you in green group. Just let me know.

You can add one more Z33 to the list as I just signed up with my 04 silverstone track.

Do you guys think my stock Track Brembo brake pads will make it on a the full course as long as a switch the brake fluid to something like ATE Super Blue? (I've got about 10k on the pads right now.)

I know Marty indicated that the guys who had the Brembos on thier 350s did fine at one of the VIR events, but I don't remember if he was talking about a full course and whether or not that will make a difference (I understand if it was a North Course run it was probabaly a good test.)

Any other suggestions for mods (temporary clear bra or anything) for this, or any other, event?

Thanks!
