Just installed a set of Z1 HP struts on my hatch. Couldn't be happier.

Didn't even need to replace the mounts because I had already dremel'd the old ones off lol. ( short story don't order hatch stays from ebay, they didn't fit and I wasted a lot of time )

But all is corrected I have the Z1s on there now and my hatch opens itself from about 25% open

 

Good story. We all have skipped steps and cut corners. Then we realize it's not how much you spend but where/how you spend it. I'm glad Z1 worked out better for you.
