How To - Shift knob for 5AT
[QUOTE=dada;7017344]
I know exactly what hole your talking about! So did you use the cup shaped rubber piece? Did you shove it up to the top of the shifter shaft or did you cut it and shove the top of the rubber to piece cut to the top of the shaft? and did you use the rubber cylinder to add durability in moving the shifter.
Also did you use the longer hex screws I got 2 sets a smaller set and a bigger set.
Ok, So I went through the whole how to with the momo Shift **** thread and could not find where this question was answered...
How do you get the shift **** to not be loose? I have removed the blue piece and inserted a rubber thing all the way up and sat it on the metal piece and now its wobbly...and I have 2 types of plastic screws and a allen wrench.
Anyone, know what I need to do next? how to tighten it up and what else?
Are you supposed to cut the one end? I dont want to F anything up either!
Hi, the way I made mine tight was to look for the hole in the center of the gear shaft, there is a small round hole. I positioned by shift **** front hole right on top of it and put the hex screw firmly in that position, once I tightened that piece, I inserted the other 2 hex screws on each side of the shift **** and I got a tight fit.
On your other question, I got a momo shift boot but the key is not to insert the shift boot too much inside, just a 1/4 inch then make sure the silver ring is inserted the same way you took it out (there are grooves that match), I got mine to fit snug but it aint perfect, there is a slight elevation on the silver ring but cant really tell.

I used the cup shaped rubber piece, made it hollow, ie opened a hole in it and shoved it down to right below where the momo shifter bottom (without the silver collet because I have the momo shift boot) would rest. I then used the smaller screws in all 3 settings. I dont know what rubber cylinder ur talking about, I did remove the blue plastic piece and inserted the momo shifter directly ontop.
James my questions still remain please.

cylinder meaning the black cups that come with the shifter, Did you cut the top off or just punch a hole?

can someone really do a DIY on this shift **** conversion cuz i am really interested in putin a manual shift **** on my 03 5AT, cuz i am really not understandin how its going to shift with out a button, what i have read you push down on the shift **** and it unlocks so that you can shif cool, but what knid of conversions do you need to do or what extra materials do you need, thanks for any help some one can give thank you
I finally did this today and am VERY happy with the result. I tucked my leather underneath the ring because I didn't want to break the tabs off in order to get the ring back on over the leather - I'd say the end result looks really nice, and even better in person. I also really wanted this done underneath the ring because it would squeak and creak sometimes, so hopefully this should put an end to that.

For those who do this mod with the MOMO: DO NOT push the **** all the way down. Otherwise the **** will sit too low and put pressure on the shifter release button/mechanism so you won't be able to remove the keys from the car. If this happens to you, simply pull the **** upwards a little until you hear a click (that's the button releasing the mechanism) and then you'll be able to pull the keys out. Leave it at that height now.

Hey, you did a great job, but I have a few question to ask you. What about the piece that you press to put it into gear. How do you put that into gear if that piece is not there. In step two you measured something, but I didn't understand that whole step. Thanks

Sorry to dig this up, never really thought of doing this mod until recently. You mentioned don't push the **** all the way down. What about when you push down on the **** to go out of park, doesn't it go back down too much again? Or do you screw the **** down initially, guess I am a bit confused.
why is there 2 radios lmao... I just noticed this... oh and also im having troble getting my trim ring to pop up and also the rear of the center panel to pop(by the a/c dials any advice would be very helpful I dont wanna just man strength it and brake it but its driving me insane.
