I got that wiper off as simple as
1. pull the plastic shell off the wiper.
2. unscrew the bolt entirely off.
3. pull wiper off
4. open hatch
5. pull off plastic gently (didnt break any rivets)
6. unbolt 3 bolts holding motor/ using elec tape wrap the wiring like a SOB and tape it up to keep from making any noise.
7. place the plug
8. put goop underneath to seal it from water
9. let it set for 5-6 mins
10. check for stiffness
11. place plastic piece back on hatch
12. go and throw the motor in the nissan dealership window and break it.. jk

Just did this mod and it was pretty damn easy. The plug is called a sink hole stopper and you get it from Home depot in the sink/faucet area.

It's raining and I wanted a slicker look to my Z so I joined the shaved wiper group as well. I am posting my version of photos for those who wanted a better look at how the plastic cover was attached. Please let me know if it helped at all!! PMs welcome. I have the original large photos if needed.

Parts:
  • 12 mm socket (outside bolt)
  • 10 mm socket (3 inside bolts)
  • Faucet hole cover (part# 551 6415AL)
  • Spray paint (in your car's color)
  • Spray clear coat (optional)

Takes about 30 minutes once the stopper is dry.

Stock look:

Start by picking up a faucet hole cover.

Spray your faucet hole cover the desired color. I started with a black matte then built up a few coats with a gloss.

While the stopper is drying, remove the plastic trim cover by gripping and pulling up revealing a 12 mm bolt.

Once the bolt is removed, slowly spin the wiper counterclockwise while pulling up. It will come off with a little work.

Inside of the hatch, near the inner wiper bump, pull out on the plastic panel. Some have suggested using a spatula to act as a pry bar. Be careful not to scratch the glass if your back window is tinted!

With the trim partly or fully off, disconnect the white power connector and remove the three 10 mm bolts that secure the wiper motor.

Remove the rubber gasket. Secure the loose power connector with zip ties or tape. With your painted faucet stopper and foam gasket, feed it through the top and screw it tight. I avoided putting glue on the threads in case I need to touch up in a few years or put the original wiper back on.

The finished look:

Tips:
  • When cutting off the extra faucet stopper threads, have the nut at the top closest to the head. Once the excess is removed, back the nut down the threads. Without doing this it is near impossible to screw the nut back onto the bolt!! This is true for metal bolts as well.
  • The plastic nut may need to be shaved and shaped if it does not clear the lip's metal edge.
  • Clear coat will help protect the stopper paint from chipping.

Nice writeup man, I am hoping all of you are removing the sprayer at the top too. It looks goofy with no rear wiper and the sprayer still on!!!

Does anyone know what happened to the guy that was selling the plugs painted w/ factory matched paint? He was doing perfect matches and the plugs weren't as noticeable as the one posted. I think he was asking $20 shipped.

I just found the guy. He's on 350zmotoring. His work is topnotch(he's a really talented painter. He uses the factory paint so it matches perfectly and the plugs are more flush than any others I have seen. His email is bobbyprice6@hotmail.

Here's the thread. I already contacted him about purchasing one.

To quote a member on that board:

idwin
i'm just going to let them sit on there until i can water check them, then throw the panels back on.
His do look nice but I would question how water tight the bottom plug is:

Regardless, for $2 it's one cheap mod.

Well, I recieved mine and installed it yesterday. Paint was a good match and the removal/installation was the easiest mod I've ever done other than the antenna replacement. I'm enjoying the nice clean look of the car w/out the wiper now. Thanks Bobby. Oh yeah, as luck would have it, it rained last night. With only a few hours for the sealant to dry, the plug didn't have any leaks. I'm going to hit it up again w/ more sealant from the inside tonight just because.

Please post some pics as well. Make sure to show the cap on the washer fluid since this thread does not have any photos of it being removed.

Sure thing man. It's dark out, but I'll def. try to get some pics. up by the weekend. I like how your plug screws down, but the fit isn't as flush as Bobby's and seems to stick out a little too much for my tastes. Thanks for the write up though and great pics.

Tips:
  • The plastic nut may need to be shaved and shaped if it does not clear the lip's metal edge.
The nut does not need to be altered in any way to clear the lip. Simply put the nut up to the hole and then put the stopper in through the top and start screwing. I put mine in and tightened it down and then marked it the very edge with a sharpie and then took it off and cut off all the excess, so there are no excess threads.

It's just a temporary solution for me though because I want something with a smaller diameter and lower profile.

Mine did need to be altered and that's why I added it to my write up. You can see the original stopper I used has about a 2" thread length. No way it was going to fit with the plastic back on without cutting. Others might have been able to pick up a smaller one but this is what i used and works great.

I'm not really sure I follow what you mean here. I wasn't talking about the threads or the stopper. I was talking about the nut that screws on to the stopper. The nut itself does not need to clear the metal lip on the inside of the hatch like you originally stated. All you have to do is put the nut up to the hole and screw the stopper in from the top. There is nothing to clear. Am I missing something?

Fry's Electronics sells replacement clips...

I'd be curious to know how much weight this mod takes off?
