Default DIY: automatic side mirror folding

I got a pair of JDM side mirrors. Then I transplanted JDM side mirror motor units to my side mirrors. I also got a relay that controls side mirrors. <- automobile DIY online shops sell these relays. When I turn the key, mirrors automatically open and mirrors close when the key is out. The relay also has a switch to open and fold mirrors on demand.

Relay wires:
Red wire: power
Blue wire: switch
Black: ground

JDM side mirrors have 5 wires:
Yellow, blue, purple wires: mirror movement control.
Pink and orange wires: folding motor control

Very cool.

So where do we get the JDM mirrors?

I got mine from the japanese Yahoo auction. It's pretty much the same deal as the ebay... I live in South Korea, so it was easier for me to get it..

That does look cool. What happens if someone tries to push the mirrors in by hand... will it damage the mechanism or will it just push inwards?

I did this option on my 95' 240SX. It was a pain to run the 2 extra wires I needed through the grommet to the mirrors, but other then that it was pretty straight foward. More then likely the current location of your power mirrors switch should be the same spot you mount this.

I do like the option of the mirror's opening and closing as you turn the car on and off. I don't have my mirrors setup like that and tend to drive through the parking lot a little bit b4 I notice. Whoops!

I'm in australia and we get the folding mirrors standard. however I've always wanted the mirrors to fold in and out automatically when the car is turned on/off etc... I'm having trouble understanding your writeup...

Is it possible to do a detailed step by step instructions + pics to do this mod??

Thanks.

Seems you would just have to run a wire from the mirror to a source that gets power when the ignition is activated.

I want this option but do not want to do it myself, nor do I want a non-Z mirror. Is there any way I can buy this outright?

No they are not. The glass on USDM cars is the reverse of the JDM cars. That is the glass would have to be switched between USDM & JDM in order to keep the glass that usually says " Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear" on the correct side ( ie left side for Japan & right side for the US).

There is a company with a better solution. They are producing an electronic module that integrates into the wiring and will:
(1) have the mirrors tilt down when the reverse gear is engaged
(2) allow motorized folding
