can the diffuser be used with the stock muffler?

 

Yes, It will fit fine, you wont have to modify the diffuser, it will be a easier install than the ones sutch as myself with large exhaust canisters.

guys, i don't have this piece (circled in red).. is it really required to mount it properly? haven't even test fitted the diffuser i got..

 

Yes it is. It will secure the RD to your RB..

i think it's very possible to mount it without this piece.

Why don't you just get the dimensions of that piece from somebody or from a vendor so you can fabricate your own using aluminum sheets or something? I would even eyeball it, even. I'd rather have it secure on the bumper rather than have it flapping against the bumper at high speeds.

 

i could do that... and i'm sure it's not gonna cost much. but i still "think" it can be secured to the bumper without it.

hmmm, let's see... ppl can get the diffuser flush on the rear bumper, which means either this piece goes well under the curve, and the lip of the diffuser actually aligned with no gap to the rear bumper or they remove it and just install the diffuser directly..


almost flush, still there is a gap.. but if u push the diffuser a bit down, you'll get a flush fitment.


with that piece in place, it fills up gap between the diffuser and bumper and it's secured by a long screw the goes through all the pieces..

Soo, it can actually be secured by long screw with the bumper, but it's gonna put some stress on the diffuser (if the piece is removed, there will be a gap between the diffuser and bumper)..



but if it's secured enough to not push it and risk cracking the CF, then it should be fine... because it's already secured to the buttom of the bumper using the Z brackets (which lifts up the weight), so the screws at the lip of the diffuser is just to secure it to the top of the bumper.

and i think this piece was put their to let the air flow off the diffuser, rather than being restricted.

i still haven't test-fitted the diffuser, but those are my thoughts.

 

be sure to use a spacer(on the bolt itself) between the diffuser and bumper so that you dont rip your bumper or crack the diffuser.

You will damage the RD if you attempt to attach it to the Rear Bumper without that support bracket. Its there for a reason.
The TSRD does not sit 100% flush with the rear bumper, there is a very thin gap.. (Gap is much wider and not straight with the MG RD's)

I would recommend you fab up a plastic piece to fit in-between... I can try to get dimensions for you tonight, if I have the time.

I still stand by what I said about fabricating your own. You don't want there to be a giant space between the bumper and the diffuser. For one, you won't know when to stop tightening your extra long bolts. Secondly, moving the diffuser further down changes the angle of the diffuser, which probably isn't preferable. The bumper isn't all that rigid so there'll probably be a lot of flexing/bending/misshaping if you didn't have the missing piece replaced. I know there are two Z brackets but that's only a total of 4 bolts still holding that entire diffuser to the bumper.

In the end, it's your bumper, your diffuser, your money, etc. I never put this diffuser on my car but I did test fit it. Just my 2 cents.

so basically plastic/fiberglass should do the trick..

 

can someone help me out?? i need the measurements of the metal brackets that holds the diffuser to the under body of the car.
