yep, been done plenty of times already on this board.
Also, wet cardboard is NOT needed, and will causing fogging of the lese in alot of cases. Dry cardboard works fine in the half a dozen times I've used it.

what do you guys recommend for those that don't have a oven? thinking about buying the heat gun, but then I'd probably never use it again for anything else...kinda of a waste.

brandonaix, your headlights is what got me into this idea to begin with, think you're too humble about the way the lights turned out. i personally really liked the finish that you put on the lights, care to share what color you used? what did you use to mask out the bulb area?

If you get a heat gun take your time and try to even the heat. If you make a mistake, you will warp your lens and or bubble it. Just find a buddy with an oven and offer some beer in exchange for whoring his/her house.

+1 Use an oven and put on a set of gloves. What I did was once the casing and silicon softens start prying and getting the two pieces apart. You don't have to separate the two entirely at first just get an even start all around. If the silicon starts to cool you'll feel the resistence. When that happens pop the lights back into the oven for a few minutes and try again. Be sure not to touch the lens or get the soft silicon on it.

I left the area around the HID projector chrome, the rest was blacked out. Reason is so I can see at night. The 03-05 are not a true projector.

lol the hood... well I just finished up my built engine install and waited for my girl to get out of her relaxing bath to help me put the hood back on.

Just have patience work slow. Hardest part was getting the front bumper off which isnt very hard at all. Do yourself a favor and download a service manual.

will do before I decide to do this mod. I'm actually considering color matching to Solar Orange. I wish someone with a yellow or le mans would actually post a pic of their color matched headlight housings.

yea it would look hot, like the c6 vets or a ferrari. I seen a blue color match on the forums. Decide on your theme for the car and proceed from there. Good Luck!!! and post pics when your done.

I used flat black KRYLON paint, no primer, no sanding and it came out awsome! I kind of wish I did satin though because the flatter the black is, the lighter it will look. (gloss black would be the darkest black, then satin, then flat) . I didnt mask anything off, just took everything apart and sprayed the bastards. Apparently I sealed the lights properly as well because I havnt had any water in the light issues.

I love the 06 lights painted, but I guess I'll have to stick with painting my 03s

Word of warning: be sure to seal those suckers up tight and make sure there aren't any leaks! I found out that one of the lights I painted has one that shorted out the ballast. Guess who will be taking a light apart and drying it this weekend.... me.

As the DIY says, start this early in the day, because prying the lights apart and letting the paint properly cure does take quite a while.

That being said, I think all Z's should come like this from the factory. I think the OEM headlights are horrendous, especially on the bi-xenons... why have them reflective when it isn't really necessary?

hey...im not trying to sell anyhing...but if someone wants blacked out 03-05 headlights and dont want to do it...I JUST did mine and I think I like the look of the stock lights better. Only because my car is black and I like the drastic difference of black vs the visible headlight. So if anyone wants to trade housings (HID) let me know. Only stipulation is that I need yours before I can send out mine as my car is daily driven. thx

your car looks tight!!! is there a lot of prep work needed? or is it just pretty much a disassemble and spray job? and u recommend satin, right?
