Rear Hatch Squeak FIXED!

Rear Hatch Squeak FIXED!
Ok, so I am posting this because I FINALLY figured out the cricket squeaking noise that was eminating from my rear hatch. The other posts on here talk about adjusting the latch mechanism, I did that but no fix. It was driving me crazy enough one day to where I was determined to find it and fix it. Some people say its the struts themselves, well not in my case. I banged on the hatch and couldn't reproduce the sound until I brought the hatch down to almost level with the roof and I finally could reproduce the sound. I looked and listened for about a minute and found out that it was the plastic piece that covers the underside of the hatch. I guess the pins weren't 100% set so all I did was punch up on the plastic and I heard it snap into place. FIXED!!! No more annoying high pitch cricket noise whenever the vibrations go through the car. So for all of you out there that are looking for the fix, here it is.

I punched up on the plastic piece that covers the underside of the rear hatch. It's that simple I just punched every couple of inches ALL the way around from left to right. If the problem IS the plastic's pins you'll know you when they reset themselves because they make a distinct loud metallic POP noise. Sorry no pics I don't think they're neccessary, like I said before it's the BLACK PLASTIC on the inside of the rear hatch nuff said.

i keep hearing the same... i traced it to the plastic on the passengers side in the trunk... it fixed the problem for a while, but now i hear it again... im going to go try it right now. Thanks

lol.. I had that noise for so long and it was driving me insane! I took my wife in the car once to see if she could help me duplicate it but was never able to determine where it was coming from. I finally got fed up and stripped ALL of the plastics out of the back to make sure nothing was loose. Upon putting it all back, the rattle stopped. I guess I had the same issue.
I thought I was the only one...

Genius!!
Thanks man I had a squeak and saw your fix and lo and behold when I checked (in the dark!) and gave the plastic a firm push I heard the snap and was confident that that was the problem. Took her for a spin and no more irritating depressing squeak Pretty sure it will come back as the plastic does not feel that sturdy but at least I now know what causes it! You have saved my sanity

Thanks!
Great fix, another success story here. Pulled to pieces most of the rear interior trim before I found your post. One click later the top section of trim where the hatch meets the roof popped back into position and the noise was gone.
Now I just need to reassemble the interior again without creating any new squeaks!
Cheers,
Jeremy

I had just recently a sound coming from my hatch. it wasn't a squeaky sound it was more like a rattling sound. metal on metal. to make a long story short when i removed my rear wiper, i put the three screws that held the wiper motor back into there holes and one of the screws wasn't tightened enough and the washer was rattling. i removed the screws and no more sound. now I have to find a way to fix the three guage rattling sound. i think the lens cover on one of the guages is loose. so annoying.
