Default How to dismount your steering wheel to make it cover ?

hi

Like i was modified my steering wheel i just would like to show you my experience for easy all remove.

1 - In first, to begin, make yours wheels very straight & disconnect the battery not to have the ESP indicator “on” once very finished.
2 - after having to remove the two small plastic masks being each with dimensions casing behind the steering wheel (blue arrows), to unscrew the two screws which hold the airbag (hollow screws torx with a small ball requiring a special key).

3 - disconnect gently the small yellow airbag connector ( yellow arrow) and remove the airbag.

4 – to unscrew almost at bottom central nut but left a little screwed (for not to take your steering wheel in yours teeth to you while drawing above !!)
5 - disconnect the connector of the orders at the steering wheel (red arrow).
6- remove the central nut & to draw extremely to leave the wheel ( maybe it’s will be hard...)

7 - to remove the parts on the steering wheel

a – remove the large plastic casing under the steering wheel ( green arrow)
b – remove the orders at the steering wheel.

c - to unscrew the mechanism of the horn be carrefull to the 2 springs ( black arrows )

Now all parts at your Steering wheel are removed

if you want, before to give it to the saddler, you can remove gently the oem leather but just in cut the interior seam, because your saddler will use this leather part for having the good gauge like an exemple to make the new.

Now your steering wheel is very naked !!

recovered with the new leather ....

Now to assembling, just make everything on the another direction by paying attention not to wedge the various cables of the connectors, and when everything its ok , you can (& just now) replug your battery.

installed inside the Z

i hope my explanations was good for you with my bad language..

bye bye

E tempo !,

That looks great man ! Let me ask you how much it cost to have the wheel re-stiched with new leather ?

Also, how long ( on average ) did it take you to do all of that ?

Final product looks very nice ! Well done.

thanks to every body

So, for this modification 2 solutions .

1 - the saddler makes everything : disassembling, recovering & assembing --->the price is expensive. € 360 / $ 485

2 - disassembling & assembling by you, recovering by the saddler -----> the price is more acceptable. € 260 / $ 350

Like it's difficult to disassembled the first time & i don't want to damage the parts, i worked very slowly----> 3 hours are necessary but after for assembling, it was more quickly 1,15 or 1.30 hour maxi.

With the steering wheel completly naked by me & with the OEM leather in exemple, i think the staddler just haved one work day. If he makes everything work, it was obliged to me to give my Z to him 2.5 or 3 days max..

I was actually surprised to see two sets of connectors at the rear
of the airbag... I actually had two capacitors, yet no soldering iron
and managed to get my airbag light to pop when I intalled my steering
wheel - super rookie move.

Gonna have to work backwards at some point. Getting the large nut off
the main mount was a super *****.
