DIY: Painting OEM shift knob etchings.
I was bored and getting annoyed with how the etching on my shift **** was getting dirty all the time. I figured I should just paint it and see how it turns out. Being into building model cars and planes this was a no brainer for me.
It will take about 5 mins of "hard" work. Best thing is you don't even have to remove the shift ****.
Materials needed:
Model kit Knife
Precision Tool Kit or small tiny flat head
Model Paint (I used red but its up to you really)
Paint Thinner
Napkin or shop towel
To begin simply clean the shift **** with the flat head or model knife. Get all the dirt, dead skin, sweat, fear, gear grinding grimace and other by product out of the etchings.
To start painting simply dab the paint onto the knife or flat head. Just dab the paint onto the etchings. Make sure it covers the whole number and line. Then wait for about a minute for it to dry.
After it dries do another coat to make the color richer. After you're satisfied with the richness of the color let it sit for 5 mins to dry. Take the napkin and dip it in the thinner and wipe the excess paint on the shifter. Clean it well and then use a dry napkin to finish the job. Make sure any excess paint should be removed if you want it to look clean and neat.
