DIY: APR mirror install
APR does not make a mount for our cars like it does for others, however its possible to get the universal mirror and mount it yourself.
This requires no drilling or cutting of the door. If you wanted to mount the mirrors closer or elsewhere, you probably will need to, but in my case its all reversible.
STEP 1: Remove factory mirrors.
no pics, just follow the FSM. Pop out the inside and there are 3 nuts and it comes right off, easy-peasy.
STEP 2: Make a plate to mount to
You can use aluminum, I prefer working with composites. Its lighter, easier to cut, and just as strong. Metal is ugly.
Its a small section, so you can get away with 2 layers of fabric. I use a piece of glass as my mould in this case. Apply some mould release wax, some resin, your fabric, and let it cure over night.

when its done, cut out your plates. I used a cardboard cut out as a template, and ended up with something like this

STEP 3: Mount
Stop watching The Price is Right and grab your mirror

Drill your holes and mount the plate. You need about 3/4in length at least as there is a bit of space between your plate, and the old mounts. Note, the top bolt here is eventually replaced with the the mirror bolt

There will be 1 more hole to drill, which is the bottom bolt of the mirror. Because there is no hole in the door, you need a small bolt here. I think I used a 1/2in (APR gives you a 3in screw).

You want this mirror as close as you can to the edge, although this is about as close as it gets due to the door. At this I can see about 3/4 of the mirror on the passenger side. Not great, but not useless. Drivers side is fine.
Once mounted, adjust them and then tighten the adjuster screws down. I have mine set to where you can still move them slightly, however wind will not (even at 200km/h+).

They are tiny. But they are convex and I can see just as much if not more out of them. They are 2lbs lighter per side, and about 1/4 the surface area drag.

Just my opinion...don't like e'm.Yeah, they are tiny...way out of proportion for the car.
I'm looking at the exposed bolt heads and saying, are you done?
2lbs less per mirror? And,this will accomplish what?
Should have stayed with OEM or saved up for some decent F1 style mirrors.
Whats with the day-glo wheels?
Its your car...

^^ BAHAHAHA!
oh man.
Priceless.
Behold, i give you tiny mirrors, exposed screws and major bad@ssness..

flat black? When are they gonna paint that thing??
OP, nice job man.. especially making your OWN carbon fiber sheet..
bust out some better hardware on those instead of APRs grarly bolts, like some stainless hex head security screws... and bang.. money.
Looks great. Like an F1 car hee hee.
And plus one on being able to see better... i had Veilsides and they were terrible. Cant wait to drive w my Autoteknics on now.

thx OP for the diy... craftsquare/autotechniks come with the plate/mount and that weighs a lb or 2. these are probably much lighter. AND they're probably easier to tighten/lock the screws than the others due to the custom mounting position.
^^ yep.. my autoteknics get whiskey d#ck all the time as they sit.. have to keep tightening em or they droop.
haha. apparently it DOES happen to everyone sometimes. haha
edit: wait.. didnt i buy my mirrors from you? haha.. funny.

yes, my #1 concern is how they look. Did you notice my spray painted front end?
And those are track wheels, I don't know why it matters what color they are.
Anyway, I just wanted to show that its possible to install these since several told me they wouldn't work.
