DIY - Foam Black Trunk Mat
Hi,
I decided to make a cheap alternative to a rear trunk mat due to the many times Im having to use my hatch area to pick up car parts, carry tools, etc.
I ruined one trunk mat already and so i just recently purchased another.
In an effort to keep the NEW trunk mat clean and the trunk area clean and avoid oil stains, snags, debris and all i decided to cut out some foam i bought online and make a trunk mat that can be used when I am going to carry junk in the back.
I just used my original trunk mat as a template and traced it out using a silver permanent sharpie marker then a standard box cutter knife to cut it out.
works great and rolls up easily and stores in the hatch area in front of the rear strut brace. I just use a rubber band to hold it together all rolled up.
I just unroll it and lay in place whenever i need to use it.
SPECS:
www.foambymail.com
Closed Cell Foam
Full Sheet - $24.99:
108" x 48" Polyethylene Foam 1/4" Thick - Black
Free shipping if you order more than 75 bucks worth. so i bought a bunch and im gonna shadow box my craftsman tool boxes, etc.
- J
im bumping the next post to add pictures later tonight...

ya, its good stuff. if you want a little thicker, you can get 1/2 inch thickness.
i choose 1/4 inch because im gonna shadow box and line my craftsman tool box with it as well. plus i use this stuff when i jack the car up on jack stand and climb under to do work.... nice to move on and not as harsh as garage concrete....
very versitile stuff...

I got this stuff: http://www.azeotek.com/category_s/64.htm
Works pretty well for containing spills and will probably last longer than foam.

Looks nice, I think I'll do this, have the edges embroidered and a large "Z" put in the middle. Is it pretty heavy duty material? (as in, doesn't pull apart if you yank on it, does it?)
Very cost effective and great write up.. I love and use my trunk cargo net A LOT, too!

Yes, its some nice material, it holds up pretty good. I ordered 6 sheets of it when i bought and i use some of it to shadow box and line my tool boxes along with a full sheet is always on the garage floor and i slide it around on the concrete to soften the ground when im on my knees working on the Z. On my back doing oil changes. etc....
