Well, I spent part of Saturday and Sunday (about 5 hours total) putting in my front brake kit. I think an experienced DIYer could do it in a couple of hours. I found a local place that would install them for a less than $100, but the instructions looked fairly straightforward. This was my first foray into brakes besides bleeding them and I took things very slow and deliberately. I don't want a nasty surprise so I checked and re-checked all of the bolts and torqued them down to spec and double checked the brake lines and connectors.
After the install and bleeding, I took it out and bedded them in with repeated hard stops anywhere from 30-80 mph down to about 5 mph. The instructions that came with the kit called for 10 stops from 30 mph to a complete stop. Most of the other instructions I've read say you shouldn't come to a complete stop, which may cause brake pad deposits on the rotor.
Feel: they feel about the same as the brembos in terms of pedal feel and stopping power. The pads are slightly different in shape but the surface area is fairly close with the new pads being slightly larger if anything.
Looks: a little extra bling with the larger calipers (I don't know where the pic I took of them side by side went ) but the Endless calipers were at least a couple/few inches longer and perhaps an inch wider. The slots are also a nice touch. If I would have gone for all four corners, I probably would have went with the red but I'm keeping the rear brembos stock (for now) and didn't want a big visual discrepancy.
Weight: One of my main concerns with any mods on the G is whether it adds or reduces weight. The good news is that this kit didn't add more weight. The rotors were exactly the same weight despite the increased mass of the bigger rotor itself. The aluminum hat helps here. Also, the new caliper with bracket was only about a lb. heavier than the brembo.
Overall, they were a little spendy but I think, well worth it. Part of the justification here is that the stock G 18" wheels will work with this kit whereas some of the other notables would not. I didn't want to spend more for another set of wheels just for the winter.
I can't wait to slap on the race pads and hit the track next year. Being a relative newbie to the track, this will be one less thing I have to worry about as my heel-toe work becomes more proficient/effective.
Thanks go to Adam at z1auto.com. Great vendor and an asset to this forum.
