Default Cost to change springs.

How much should it cost for me to have my springs changed? I have the eibach springs and was basically looking for a ballpark figure on how many hours a shop might take to do the swap. I may just do it myself if it isn't too hard.
Thanks

do it yourself! no better feeling than completing a mod on your own. and if you dont have the tools, spend the money on tools instead of the install.

I was quoted $350 from a professional alignment shop. It ain't cheap, that's for sure. they said 2-3 hours, plus a bit more to check alignment, though I'm going to have that done after a month or so to see if things have settled.

Badmonkey_1,

I am thinking of lowering my car too. My dad in law has the tools.

Let me know so we can get together for the install.

I don't know what springs to get at this point. Tein S or hotchkis.

hndumafia,

How is the hotchkis springs? Were you able to get the alignment back to spec or close to it? Any camber kits needed?

Would i be fine just getting the springs? I don't really need to sway (looking for more looks now).

Tony

i am happy with the hotchkies springs. the car feels good around turns and i feel no bounce. i actually haven't gotten the car realigned since i installed the springs because my tires were pretty worn anyway. but i have new tires on order, and they should be on next week. i'll be getting an alignment then so i'll know for sure if it goes back into spec or not. but since the drop is only like .6-.7 inches getting back into spec should not be a problem. and yea you would be fine with just the springs. i actually just put the sways on a couple weeks ago, and ive had the springs since august. the sways really do make the car feel more responsive when turning and keep it flat, and i'd recommend upgrading at a later time if you want the increase in handling.

A good shop should be able to do it in less than 2 hours. So I wouldn't pay more than $200 to have them installed. As for doing it yourself the only real special tool you need is spring compressors and you can normally rent those from automotive parts stores like Pepboys.

If you don't have a spring compressor, you could alway use the 'base of a tree, pray, and release' method.

a breaker bar/wrench helps increase torque, it's usually about a foot and half to two feet long.

i have done springs or coilovers on about 20 Z's/G's and i charge 60 bucks for a spring install. it takes me about an hour and a half.

the Z doesen't need a spring compressor, because the springs aren't under very much preload at all.

you should put the car on jack stands while changing out the springs. it's not safe to just leave the car on a floor jack.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to do it myself. I have an air compressor and a garage full of tools. On the other hand, if I could find somebody around here to do it for $60, I would go that route. Just to not have to take the time.

Breaker bars are superior to air tools. I have seen many a bolt that an air tool wouldn't get but a 2 foot breaker bar with a 3 foot cheater pipe would (Honda 32mm axle nut).

BertG, hmmm I believe I'm in your area (unless you're in the other South Bay). Would that be Torrance area? If so, which shop did you take it to? I might have another place install the springs.
