Default Front-left brake seizure

Last Friday, my front-left brake caliper almost seized. On my way home from work, and after 5 miles of driving, I felt the car get really sluggish. I pulled over to check my tire pressure, and they were fine. I get back in, and drive another mile, and it starts to feel like I have to give the car more gas just to maintain freeway speed. So, I pull over again, jack the front end up, and try to turn the front wheels. I found that my front-left wheel is so tight that I can't even turn it.

At first, I thought I had a bearing failure, but after taking off the wheel, I discovered that the stoptech caliper wasn't releasing pressure. I have had the 14" stoptech kit for the past 6 months, and they have worked well until last Friday.

I'm planning to remove the kit next weekend, and replacing them with my OEM brakes to isolate the problem. But before I do that, I was wondering if anyone had this happen to them. I'm thinking it could be the caliper or the abs unit, as the other brakes are fine.

I've had mine over 6 months and never had that happen. I would try and bleed the brake system at least before you remove the brakes. If it is a caliper failure, Stoptech should help you out.

I bled the system, and switched out the pads, but it didn't fix the problem. My pad backing plates have been shaved for easy install, so I know they aren't binding up in the caliper. After going through my own dianostics, I'm almost certain that it's the master cylinder or abs unit, and not the calipers. My next step is to pull the ABS fuse, and see if disabling it will let brake fluid pass back through the lines easier.

I called Stoptech just to see if there are any other steps I can take to narrow down the problem, and they gave me some additional advice. I must say, their customer service is top notch. I don't for once regret buying the BBK from this reputable company.

I got to speak to a live specialist literally seconds after calling them.
