Noisy Brake Question
I just have a quick question about brakes.My brakes started making noise,so I went out and purchased some new rotors and Hawk HPS pads. I am still waiting for them to come in. My car even makes noise when I do not have the brake pedal pressed.Going in a straight line,my car is fine.If I turn the wheel just a little to the left,it squeeks.Does this sound like it can be a different problem? Or am I just being paranoid?
It could still just be the wear indicators ruining your stock rotors telling you it is time to change them ASAP. If you are worried, pull off the wheel and see what the brake pads look like.
i'm having the same problem. squeeling is pretty bad now (makes the noise when I go over bumps, though), but I don't expect to have the rotors & pads replaced for like a week. if my pads are worn down totally, am I at risk for screwing something else up, like my calipers or something? I can deal with the noise and don't really care about the rotors now, but don't want to mess something else up.
That squeeling noise is the metal tab on the pad grinding into your metal rotor. If you leave it that way long enough it will grind a nice groove in your rotor and it will be unusable turning your $100 brake job into a $500 brake job.
well, for me, I'm looking to replace the rotors as well. with 38k on the clock, figure it's time. but I haven't noticed any unusual wearing yet on the rotors...still look pretty smooth
it's just amazing how hard it is to find someone to do some decent brake work. Nissan quotes me $500 per axle (w/ new rotors) or $300 per axle (w/ resurfacing). going to get stop-techs for like $400, hawks for around $100 and then just need someone to install it all...

I was going rather fast through it with a datsun in front of me! so now its a constant from both sides lol... Looks like new pads for me... I'm gonna talk to my brake guy tomorrow and see what he can hook me up with...
anyone have any recommendations on brake pads that I might be able to get locally?
I know I'll need the rotors turned also...
I just finished changing my brake pad to Hawks brake pads for Brembo and now I hear a grinding noise when I lightly apply my brakes. However, when my brakes are applied harder there is no noise. Anyone have a clue what might be causing this and a solution? I am thinking that there is a wear period for the new pads. I'm going to give it two weeks before I have a shop look at it.

Any update?
I changed my brake pads and didn't do anything to the rotors and I am getting grinding noises when I lightly put the brakes on. I've applied "Disc Brake Quiet" silicon solution to the back of the brakepads and it still did not go away.
I'm using an organic brake pad which people say are the quiet ones...
Am I missing something? It's been a month now and you would think the grinding will go away since the pads and rotors should be broken into each other..
Help please, It's driving me crazy and embrassing.
PS: Backing up the car makes HUGE grinding noise too >_<;;
