Default Brake Dust is Driving Me Crazy

Does anyone know where you can get some dust covers or shields for my wifes Z? I'm getting real tired of washing 'em off each weekend. We put new pads on it at 15,000 but that didn't seem to help. Any ideas?

Replace the pads with Hawk HPS pads. Low dusting and easier cleanup. I got mine from www.tirerack.com

just use wheelwax. Thats all you got to do.
Clean your wheels, Remove the brake dust. Then you apply the wheelwax, I took my wheels off to do it but you dont have to I dont guess.
I applied to the inside and outside of rim.
It used to take 10 or more minutes each for my front rims to get clean.
Now it doesnt take 2. Its really good stuff.

I have tried that it still dusts, just makes it easier to clean. Only way to get around low dust is Hawks, ect. But you take the chance of squealing at low stops.

Well yeah,
You are still going to get the brake dust unless you change pads but if it just washes right off then its not really that big of a deal.
Either way will work, I just find it easier and perhaps a little cheaper to slap a little wheelwax on there and be done with it.
Once My brakes wear out then yeah, Ill replace them with something else.

I have brake dust *inside* the car. The door jams also build up quite a bit of dust.

You can either wax your wheels to make the dust easier to wipe off or get new pads to reduce dust altogether.

Wheelwax is good (I use it), but no substitute for less dusty pads. The OEM pads are terrible. I recommend Hawk HPS pads too.

I'm not that impressed with Wheel Wax so far. Its not much better than using plain old NXT on the wheels for me.

Hey, since brake squeal came up in this thread, let me ask something:

In a MT how do you stop break squeal in the short term?

In my AT Maxima I hold the brakes down while stomping on the gas. This stops the squealing...but this technique works because the torque converter won't allow me to hurt any gears by doing so.

But...
what can you do in a MT to stop squeal without putting stress on the tranny and drivetrain etc?

So Hawk HPS will reduce dust, that's a given...

how are they at reducing squeal?

They ADD squeal in a lot of cases - not reduce it... Brake dust is a contant battle and every solution seems to entail a compromise...

I had Axxis all around (non Brembo) and dust was reduced a lot. Due to a major redo of the brakes I recently switched to Hawk HPS. The Axxis I had installed by somebody and they squealed all the time. The Hawks I installed myself, no noise at all so far.

Brake pad noise is on the install, not the pad.

hmmmm.........I've not experienced any squeal what so ever. I used the shims that came with the pads and some of tha blue anti-squeal stuff.

hawks

no squeal here either... I think the secret is using the stock shims + antisqueal compound

anyway the method I use to keep my rims clean now is: hawks + crystal guard on the wheels once a summer + a mini california car duster every couple of days = NO DUST EVER and NO MORE WHEEL WASHING!
