Default Project Mu NS vs. Hawks HPS

which one would you pick and why? Price is not an issue. If anybody has experience with either or both that would be great. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks

It seems like not too many people have tried the NS pads yet. I have the rears sitting next to me and the fronts aren't available until 8/3. I would expect to get more responses after that.

ProjectNissan.com

Seems like the only place to get them. I think somebody said Performance Nissan has them too.

We (Enjuku Racing) installed the pads on a friend's car and he was not too pleased with them. During break-in, he compared the pads to a stock pad. After break-in, he then said they felt like an entry level street pad. A week later he calls me to tell me his brakes were on fire. Realizing that he likes to exagerate events to the fullest, I worked him down to the story that after a long bursts of high-speed runs one day, he simply overheated the brakes to a point to where they started smoking excessively to a point to where he stopped to go check to see if they actually were on fire. Ever since then, his brakes were horrible. (given that he was probably boiling his brake fluid - still stock).

This was all on the non-Brembo brakes with stock rear pads and Type NS front pads.

His next choice is to go for somce Hawk HPS or Endless VN pads.

Since then, we installed a set of Endless Vita Nuova pads on my own Z and I love them. It is a definate upgade from the stock pads. I have yet to do some track driving since my car is at the service department.

what about the B-force pads? I'm just looking for a pad that has initial bite like stock but with reduced dust. I've searched and from what I read the Hawks don't have that initial bite.

endless pads are just a bit out of my price range. What about Porterfields?

I would say the Type NS has very similar qualities to stock brake pads and put out less dust than stock. I am not 100% sure, but I believe the Hawk HPS have less dust and a bit better bite than the NS.

I just think that the Type NS should be strictly for street and not abused like my buddy did.

Project MU NS pads are meant to be stock replacement for street use only. Its not a good idea trying to track or autocross with these pads. I would recommend the Hawk HPS, Endless SSS, or Porterfield R4S if you want something for the street and autocross. The temp is much higher than stock.

Thanks,
Tom

My research indicates the NS pads have slightly more bite than stock and produce less dust. You are right though...they are intended for street use. I'll have a full review once I put mine on.

I doubt I am ever going to take my car to a track. However, I do like driving aggressively around town and good initial bite and fade resistance is a must! The stock pads are fine, they just dust way too much.

lascala26 please let me know how the NS pads are. I am leaning more towards the Hawks right now.

I will. The NS pads for the front are shipping on 8/3 for sure. I will have them on by 8/10. Full review to follow.
