Mine went at about 12k. Sucks. Dealer replaced the rears for me, but wouldn't replace the fronts. I went ahead and got some hawks. Hawks squeek even MORE than stocks though. Im gonna try the EBC Green pads.

i replaced mine at around 20k as well, but it's because it's making the squeaking noise,... and i got the pad & rotors replaced AGAIN few days ago at 49k ...
said rotor is about 20% left.

my brake indicator light came on in my gauge cluster in the late 23,000s, so if your light isn't on yet and you don't hear metal-like squeaking, I'd say you are good for a while, but checking would be best.

i went 40k on mine and still had more left and drove like the devil was after me!!!my slip/ tcs light came on at like 25k!! put more fluid in and was fine. the dealer was just trying to soak you for labor and parts costs. some of the reasons i never let anyone touch my cars and never will!!! it is one thing to propose an upgrade or maintenance issue to a customer and another to scare them into thinking thier car will explode if they don't "spend the money". very few people are honest in this business.
btw- easy on the chevy stuff. i got 2 vettes and a 67 camaro was my first car which i still have, lol. hate to say it but a sbc will still smoke the sh it out of the Z for 1/2 the price.

What do you mean "turn"? I haven't heard this term before.

i did this in reverse - got the ebcs first and had very poor luck with them - overheated them after 2 laps on a roadcourse in gainesville (Zfest 2005) and they only felt like 50% ever after - minimal noise / dust but very minimal breaking...

switched out the ebcs --> hawk hps and have been v. happy ( ) and haven't been able to get them to fade yet at several autocrosses and 1 endurocross - they did squek some the first 2k miles but have finally molded themselves to the rotors [ or the front tire noise drowns em out ]

HPS

turn = machining down the rotors to make them perfectly smooth again
[BUT removes mass so that heat builds more quickly - fine for a daily
driver but generally better to just $$ for new ones on a Z]

[sorry - just playing with all the icons...]

I had the front rotors turned and new ceramic front pads installed @ 23K. I commute 7-8 miles / days in stop and go traffic. The ceramic pads also squealed like a stuck pig. Approx. 2K later, the shop could not get the squealing to stop so they put on OEM pads free of charge. The brakes still squeal @ 27K. I think turning the rotors may be the cause of the noise. I have no more time or energy to address this problem so I just turn-up the radio.

Default Worn rotors

Just had the 15,000 maintenance, was told by the dealer I needed front pads. I'm thinking 14,750 miles and the pads are shot? I passed on the dealer's $350 brake job and went to another shop and had them inspect the pads, only about 2mm left so replaced them with Hawks HPS, AND the mechanic was suprised by the amount of wear on the rotors. Me too! So brake job and Hawks pads $300. My rear tires are almost gone too, the fronts are relatively new because Nissan swapped them out on the feathering issue.

I just had the front pads and rotors replaced by the dealer on my 03 touring. I heard the wear indicator. I have 42K miles of mostly highway driving.

I replaced my fronts at 19k and just did my rears at 28k. The rears had about 40% left - but I was there so I did it.

Rear Brakes - 1 wrench - 1 c-clamp - 10min - done. Fronts are the same - its very simple - DIY

I wouldn't say it is a long life, but not unheard of. I think I got about 20-25K on my fronts, and that even included some autocross.

I have an 04 Z. I had to replace my brake pads at 15K. They started to squeal. Just go with HAWKS HPS pads. They are much better and have minimal fading.

I think my pads are about ready to be replaced. I have a set of Project Mu B-Force front and rears sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. Does anybody know of a how-to write up for replacing brake pads on the Brembos? I hear it's really easy, but I'd feel better with some instruction...

I replaced my '05 pads last week at 25k because they were squeaking. I've had the Hawk HPS for about 2k and there is significantly less brake dust.

Default Rotor advice

Need advice and would appreciate it or if anyone could point me to a thread/post that answers my question: How much should Brembo replacement rotors cost? I've got a shop trying to jack me for $500 for one rear rotor. Here's what happened:

I replaced the front pads dealer-replaced at 42k on my ’03 Track. They said nothing about the front rotors, so they must be in good shape.

I had the rear pads replaced at an all-service shop that basically fracked them up. I heard a squealing since they put them on and turned the rotors. Been back twice and they turned the rotors twice. Now they say I need rear rotors and I gave them hell, since I only now needed rotors b/c they overmachined them in the first place. We finally agreed to split the cost of a pair of replacement rotors.

The shop says these are OEM replacement rotors from Brembo ordered through Nissan parts. And by the way, I have never gotten a brake indicator light warning.
