changed all 4 at 21k miles, the fronts were completely worn and the rotors had to be replaced. the rear still had about 5k of life left and rotors were turned.

You might need front pads, depends on your driving style. Some people have replaced them as low as like 12k miles. Check your fluid level, if its a little low your brake light will also come on.

I changed the fronts at 19,000 just recently. I left the rotors even though the stock pads ate about 2mm into it and left a ridge at the tip of the rotors. I put on Hawks HP Ceramic. So far brake dust is gone.

man, you guys are hard on brakes!

My car is an Enthusiast, so no Brembo's. I put 30k miles on the front pads that came with my AP brakes, and had 41k on the rears (OEM) before I changed - rears still had about 20% left, fronts had meat but one pad developed a slight crack, so replaced them all

I agree. They seem to be pounding on the brakes. I didn't have to replace pads on my Brembos until just after 42,000 miles.
