Default Ok so what happens if I waited to long and started eating into my rotors?

Just as the title states, I didn't think the brakes were as bad as they are, and I've started eating a groove into the rotor. My father is a mechanic and will be able to take care of it I'm sure, I'm just curious and felt like asking here while I'm on the forums rather than call him.

Either the grooving is minor and the disc can be turned.
or
You need new discs

Every rotor has a minimum thickness requirement. If the rotors are at least this thick at the deepest groove than you can have them "cut" (resurfaced). Sorry I don't know our cars specs.

If you have Brembo I believe the minimum thickness is 22mm. If the groove gets too deep you'll need to buy new rotors.

I see little point in replacing rotors or pads before its necessary. The pads have a wear clip that makes a screeching sound against the rotor. The clip doesn't eat the rotor. Its simply time to replace the pads.

Yeah, the brake sensor (that little clip) is softer than the rotor, it won't really damage it. But it might scratch the surface a little. If you leave it too long or let the pad get too low, then it will start to damage the rotors. He said he can already visibley see a hroove etched into the rotor already. If you let it get too deep, it will go under the minimum thickness, then you would need to get new rotors.
