I have had my Hawk pads on for about 6 months now. Lately, under hard braking, I've noticed an odor that I have never had before.
Can anyone explain this ? Do the pads begin emitting an odor after they have worn to a certain point ?
I'm still using the original brake fluid (if that matters).

i don't know about special releases of odors after a certain point, but i know if you over heat the pads, they have a tendency to change chemically. were you tracking the pads? or just on the twisties near home or something like that?
maybe its just some surface contaminates burning off? rotor coating? brake cleaner residue?
what does it smell like..
