Angry Racing Brake reveiw (BAD)

I purchased a set of front/Rear Racing Brake drilled/slotted rotors for my '05 enthusiast (non-brembo) from another forum member (they had bought them new and never got a chance to install them b/c their car got totaled in a rear-end collision by a F150!).

I installed the rotors and everything was easy; first thing I noticed was that the rear rotor contact patch (portion of rotor where brake pads will touch rotor) appeared to be a bit too small compared to the brake pads... (Upon removing the rotors/pads after a week of use, I noticed that the rear pads had not worn on the inner radius side... )

I also installed new brake pads at the time of the install (raybesto st 41/43, a semi-metallic racing pad). This set-up was going to be my track only rotor/pads. (The basic plan was to install these rotor/pads only before going to the track, and then to re-install a street set)

After going to the track that weekend, and coming back (a total span of less than 1 week), all 4 rotors had large cracks forming!!! I contacted Racing Brake, but they wouldn't do anything...customer service was less than helpful .

**I know 'you get what you paid for', and I got it...I had hoped that the rotors would be able to handle several track days, but I barely got 1 out of them.

The photos attached are all 4 rotors removed after 3 week...the car sat for 2 weeks after I noticed the cracks (luckily I also have a civic, a bit slow, but very reliable)

I'm surprised at how poorly the rotors were designed and made and how bad the customer service was - I'm never buying anything from Racing Brake again!

When a rotor is drilled (and it's not part of the casting process) it causes a stress concentration around the drilled area...if left unattended, this area is a weak point and can allow for crack propagation. Good companies will either incorporate the drilled portions into the casting process or do a heat treatment (or other process) after drilling to alleviate the stress concentrations - cheap companies just drill it and ship it...

Their customer service and poor product is the reason we stopped selling their stuff..

They also punked out in paying up a prize from last years Z day in NJ on us, we were forced to pay the winner.Warren is a bad businessman IMHO.

You shouldn't be running drilled rotors on teh track in the first place. Less material to absorb the heat. With that said I've ran the stock rotors with front race pads for 3 track days and they held up just fine. Aftermarket doesn't always mean better than OEM.

Its a well known fact that most drilled rotors will crack! Your weaking the structure, its common sense. People buy them because they look cool.
Slotted only!

Man, sorry for you.

People always make funny faces when I recommand plain rotors for track use. No slots and above all, no drilling.

Yet, that is the way to go for maximum stoping power and durability. Just get the right pad and the correct braking technique, and you'll never see fade.

I had to get a special order for my StopTech 2 pieces rotors to get the plain one! :P

As mentioned above, never use a drilled rotor on track. Notice the crack is right through the drilled holes.
I have had great luck with the (cheap) centric rotors that cobolt friction sells. I'm on my second set of rears (stock base model size) and couldn't be happier. I get light cracking, but I seem to wear through them before the cracks get too big. They crack less than my stock rotors did.

Mountain rotors for the win

Not fancy - just good

Hint to non-Brembo 03-05 guys. 01-02 Maxima rotors are almost identical in the front - same bolt pattern/thickness/OD etc. - cheaper too I'd bet.

Yea, I had the rotors on my last car when they were called TPM products. The cross drilled cracked in 2 month of normal daily driving. Your best bet is to find a 2-piece rotor. A two piece has the ability to expand inward and outward, so stress won't build up at any point, cracking the rotor. StopTech has a kit for a 4 wheels with SS lines, pads and fluid for under 1500 I think.

Why anyone would ever buy a drilled rotor is beyond me. Then again - people buy fake drilled rotor shields that go inside the rim and fake Brembo caliper covers and all sorts of retarded things like that.

A fool and his money.......

A quality drilled rotor is not a bad purchase and should not have any cracking issues under normal use. Drilled rotors offer more bite than blank or slotted rotors and will also outperform them in wet weather. For street driving or autocross we have no problem recommending drilled rotors but you will never hear us recommend drilled rotors for track use.

We also used to sell RacingBrake, and now don't. I'll leave it at that.

But I agree with the posts above: I would NEVER run a drilled rotor on the track.
