Installed: Stance coilovers-problem with knocking/thuds in rear
I recently installed a set of Stance coilovers over the weekend with a buddy. While testing them out, im getting a really bad knock from the rear drivers side. Even from the smallest bumps in the road there are some thuds and knocks. Can anyone help me zero in on the problem. I already check to make sure the collars are tightened and preload was readjusted. I really want to push these to see how much better they are compared to stock but dont want to do so with the gremlin knocking in the back.
I just came back from taking off the coilover and i found out that the top nut was loose. After tightening that the ride was smooth and much better, but since the old knocking is gone the other rear i found out, has a very minor one that i will have to adjust.
Overall handeling was much improved and the car is more predictable. I kept the damper level at 6/6 and its not bone jittering at all. The ride is smooth and larger bumps are precise. Body roll has been decreased with the coilovers but sways will fix that.
The only problems i had was the loose top nut on the one rear coilover.
I see a potential problem with the rubber bushing that connects to the bottom of the coilover (since all the force is now being put on that one connection). Mine has some very minor cracking which looks pretty new. When i had the car set really low i could see that it was being twisted more than it should be, stretching out and compressing the bushing at a extreme angle.
Does anyone know if there there any solid bushings for rear coilover set ups?

As for the thumping, i got the same problem.
Trending Topics
What kind of thumping is it? Does it sound like metal to metal? I recently installed my Stances also, but I don't have any thumping sound unless I go over a really deep hole. I will be checking everything this weekend since I am going to be putting all the front and rear SPC camber parts I finally got. Also, how low are your guys' cars? Mines pretty low, but again no noise.

I set mine to have the fenders a cm over the top of the tire. I forgot to measure the stock distance from the center of the wheel to the fender. Anyone have that on hand?
i have the same exact problem. it's annoying as hell.
it started on my passenger side, so i switched it to the drivers side to see if it was the problem, and it persisted. what can it be? it feels stiffer than the other side although i have them at the same setting.

How long have you guys had your Stance coilovers on? My rear bushings seem just fine. They aren't wrinkled or cracked looking at all. I've been riding on them for about 2 weeks now and they seem fine.
