They aren't much stiffer then oem as to either allow the shocks to hammer on the bumpstops 24/7 or to cause issues with wear. I'd worry about other issues vs shock lifespan. Hearing your thinking about coilovers, I'd just make sure you get good coilovers so you don't give yourself simular or other issues.

Only way they could become stiff as hell is by the spring rate spiking because the spring has compressed and the bumpstops have taken over. Given the mild spring rate and the drop amount not surprised.

That's possible, the oem bumpstops are very unforgiving. If your willing to give up the oem dust shields which are built around the oem bumpstops you can purchase Koni progressive soft bumpstops. You'll get more compliance and more suspension travel since the Koni stops total height is shorter then the oem parts (by about 1/2", more if you trim them)

Here's Koni's part number
Kon15.34.20.000.0

Here's a link to where you can buy them.

I have them on the car now and anyone that has the Truechoice coilover system also has them since they come with them when shipped. I used them when I was running my Koni coilover conversion and when I was testing Tokico D-spec springs with Koni shocks. .
