Oem or Hawk HPS?
Hey guys, I'm in time for some new front brakes (non-brembo) and I was trying to get an opinion on whether to go Hawk or not.
From researching on this forum, it seems like the consensus is that the Hawk HPS have
Question: are they harsher on the rotors? and do they indeed have less bite?
Considering they are very similarly priced, would the Hawk's be better for a daily driver non-track use or is OEM the best choice?
If what the hawk brings to the table isn't really that diff than oem, then I will most likely go oem.
Thanks for your opinions!
From researching on this forum, it seems like the consensus is that the Hawk HPS have
- less initial bite (and maybe less overall bite)
- they possibly last longer
- they have less dust than oem

Brake pads are like a see saw you can blend the scraps into functioning WELL at only one narrow temperature range.
Since most people want short panic stopping distance as reasonable highway speeds, and factory wants to score well in magazine tests. Dust is the price you pay for cold stopping.
It takes a 60 mph panic stop to raise rotor temperature by 150F.

I have Hawk on my Z, works pretty good. ( I got Drilled/sloted rotors)

I've had Hawks HPS pads front and rear for about 10K miles now. I honestly feel virtually no noticeable performance difference from what the OEM pads offer (in daily driving). The low dust is also a great selling point as well.
For my light-duty applications, they work very well.

All of the above is correct. Less bite, but good enough. They do last longer than stock pads. They have much less dust than stock, and they are very gentle on the rotors. (unlike stock pads that chew rotors up pretty quick.)
For DD, I would highly recommend them.

Honestly, stock felt better. Harder on the rotors, more noise, but that's not the point.
