Default Spring Mount Mod Question

I've been researching this and I'm wondering if there are any drawbacks to this mod? Seems too good to be true. I see a few people have done it and a lot "plan on" doing it but i haven't seen any reviews 6 months, a year, 2 years down the road. What do you think? I'd be doing it on stock springs and shocks.

this is what i'm talking about...

I've had it done for close to 1.5 years and I'm as happy as the day I did it. There are NO drawbacks to this mod IMO as long as the cutting is done correctly.

I agree, cut needs to be straight! I've had mine on for about 8000 miles, no issues at all

Pretty sure I did mine over two years ago. Now I have used them off and one as I have tested different setups, but it's easy to say I have at least 30k on them, zero issues. I am currently using them btw.

What you need to be most concerned with is if you use them with lowering springs. Honestly look at things and ask the question, will I have enough rear shock piston travel. We don't have a lot of piston down stroke, getting into the bumpstops a lot more isn't a plus.

I shaved my rear spring mount almost a year ago and no issues, even with autocross & road course. But then again, I have stiff after-market springs & Koni Yellow adjustable struts (set to full stiff for track, full soft on street). My Z looks great with this mod -- leveled instead of the rear sticking up.

And it feels even better when you ran faster times than a Z06 (like I did in last weekend's autocross) . . .

Hmmm...on stock shocks with GF210 the rides became a bit harsh after the shaved...felt like i was on full coilover but otherwise looks great can't complain

That would be because your pounding the rear shocks into the bumpstops, you don't have enough rear shock piston stoke to lower 1.2" AND drop again with the upper spring mount mod.

So the cure for that would be change the shocks with aftermarket rite?? i was thinking Tokico D-Spec....I wonder if there is a company out there that sells the spring mount already shaved except made with a different material like polyurethane or even aluminum???

Yes. You do have other shock option's. Koni, Bilstein, Tokico HP, and KYB GR2.

Energy does make a 5" diameter 3/8" thick poly part. IIRC it's some sort coil spring mount. I'll try and search for it latter today.
