Tighten the nut on the top of your coil over. You have to use an impact wrench or else the piston will spin as well.

ON the top of the coilover, inside the car in the hatch area, I would also tighten the adjusting nuts on the actual coilover with the spanner wrenches

You have to remove the rear coilovers to tighten the nut. Sucks... but that's the only way.

I did mine (impact gun on top nut), then 1000 miles later (last week) the **** starts to rattle again. what gives? Probably the joint that is on the ball? Grease it? Out of ideas and I know the top is tight. Also tightened the bottom with a tein supplied wrench.

ok may be I will give that a try.

But it is a pretty prominent clunking noise, NOT ticking/a simple rattling noise.

Any more idea?

I took a thin piece of rubber sheet found from the plumbing section of your favorite hardware store and cut it out exactly the shape of the top of the rear strut hat and I no longer have clunking noises. It must have been from the metal on metal at the top of the strut. I tried tightening up the bolts up there but it did not seem to help. Some may say that the thin piece of rubber I used will not give the direct feedback, but it will be very minor.

looks like this, but its a little bit thinner:

I think it has something to do with the rear spring and coilover...any thoughts?

You may be suffering with the lower shock mount bushing issue that a few truecoilovers users have experienced. While many truecoilover owners will mention that they don't have the issue, this doesn't help the owners that do. Consider having Nismo lower shock mount bushings pressed in or consider a custom made bushing replacement.

You have Stance coilover, correct?

Thanks for your input.
Do you know what causes that? stock ones too soft?? I had a set of Bilstein sport tuned shock and spring kit on before, it didn't make that noise. And now I have OHLINS on.

Any more idea, ppl?

Ohlins,...scratch what I said above, you don't have a true coilover in the rear.

You need to look at the usual suspects concerning the noise.

Go back and check every single thing you would have loosened and tightened in the install process, on the suspension, damper and seperate spring assembly. Also check your rear sway bar end links and the bolts they attach with.

Did you buy the used Ohlins setup from jerjerboy?

The bilstein setup you had, that was the JDM dealer optional kit, correct?

I will check. No I donno that member, I got my brand DFV brand new. I think it has something to do with the rear springs, since I only hear that clunking noise when they are being compressed. Those rubber pieces that can be put onto the coils might eliminate the noise.

And yes, the Bilstein is JDM. I have a couple suspension sets lying around and I am thinking of selling them if anyone is interested.

You have the cusco zero 2 rubber mount setup right? So do I and I have the rear clunking noises. I already tightend the crap out of the top mount nuts but that didn't do anything. I'm going to have to try this sometime.

I have this noise with my BC coils in the back. My mech put some radiator gaskets over the coilovers (they are rubber and are almost the same shape as the mount). It made the noise worse. However, he did say that the contact between the shock mount up top and the actual pillow ball mount is what is most likely the culprit of the noise, since he could see that wear on the mount of the shock had only partially appeared. The shock mount is a circle, and we could only see about 3/5 of that circle starting to rub down on the pillow ball mount area, which is painted gold.

Basically, poor contact. I'm going to try and get some thicker rubber and doing that custom cutout that someone suggested.

The alignment shop that corner balanced my car and all that fancy stuff after I installed all my stuff said that some coilovers just make noise like this but he didn't disassemble the shock from the car to determine the true problem.
